Posted Mon Jul 24, 2006 8:08 am GMT by MrDarling
Hi , I am a little confuse about the name of different levels in NL holdem
100NL , is referring to what blind levels?
Is it $1/$2 blinds with maximum buyin of $100 ? or what?

do all poker rooms have the same max buyin for the same blinds?

Thanks

hiya..

Pretty much all online sites are standardized at normal levels. Some sites allow deep or short max buyins for micro stakes but those are assumed to be irrelevant.

Online 100nl refers to the max buyin (100 bucks) which has blinds of .5/1. In a casino, this would most likely be 1/2 instead. The only thing that really matters is how big the buyin is, so that's how it's commonly and easily referred to. Assume that it means 100 big blinds are the max buyin for all online stuff.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does max buy in refer to?

Also another question: In NL, the limits may be 0.5/1 or 1/2 (as you say in a casino for example); but are these only guidelines? because at any time a player may bet however much he/she wishes? i.e. if a player were to bet the default amount without increasing it, would that be the amount of a SB on and before the flop, and BB on the turn and river? eg. 0.5 and 1? But, becasue it is NL, they will have a chance to increase this?

I'm sorry this is very hazy. I am new to hold'em and even newer to NL!

max buy in is exactly that,
the maximum amount of cash u can buy in with.

as for 1/2 or 5/10 etc that is the blinds, not a guideline of any kind
but it is also like u say a minimum bet amount.

"Max Buyin" is my short form for "Maximum amount you are allowed to buy in from".

In 100nl, for instance, the max buyin is $100. These $100 can also be called a full "stack", a "buyin"... err.. a million other things.

for 100nl, .5/1 refers to the blinds. They're not a "guideline" exactly because they're mandetory for every round (cards aren't dealt until both blinds have been placed on the table) but rather the minimum bets that generate action.

The second number (1) also refers to the minimum bet on future streets (rounds of betting like the flop, turn and river) as well.

Very concise. Explains it perfectly.
