I still don't exactly get how the bad beat jackpots work on Party, could somebody point me in the direction of a page or something that explains them???

edit: just found the page. I sat at a bad beat table for a bit and it seemed to me to be absolute insanity. Granted it was the .50/1 table, but there were pots of $50 going back and forth with middle pairs ... good times.

The part that doesn't interest me is now every freakin table just about takes an extra 50 cents off the top for a jackpot I won't hit and a tourney I didn't ask for. Playing 2/4, 50 cents on top starts to add up. Time will tell how much it means, but its probably significant enough that I will have to switch sites.

You are right Phil. 0.50 on a 2/4 table is a huge mountain to overcome. Even if you can win 3BB an hour (which seems reasonable at those limits), that is still 4% MORE rake than average.

I would avoid the jackpot games at limits below 5/10 if you have a choice. That extra amount will kill you.

I disagree.

Most "smart" players avoid these games like the plague because of the extra rake. So who is left? Wink

Plus, if you dont mind getting run down, the pots on these tables are huge. Anyone w/ 5 Diamond 7 Diamond will call to the river with any chance at the jackpot, even if they just have one out or need runner runner.

If you can make 3BB/hour at a "normal" game and get raked 4-5%, but can make 6-7BB/hour at these games, does the extra rake really matter?

BTW-dont kid yourself. With needing quad 8s or better, this jackpot is NOT designed to hit. You need about $250k-$400k to justify the extra rake if you base it purely on math and not the action of the players.

I absolutely agree with everything DaveB said. Having already hit table share of a BB jackpot at a local cardroom, I guess I've gotten my money back on any extra rake they've taken, but the odds needed to hit the jackpot never justify the extra drop, or they wouldn't offer it.

The problem with DaveB's logic is that now like 75% of the tables are jackpot. Which means the better players are thinking exactly like that are also now all on the monster tables. In effect the ratio of fish/sharks probably doesn't change much, but the rake sure as hell goes up. I lost like $4 last night in extra rake playing about 350-450 hands. Thats like .25 BB/100, I know my anecdotal observations don't mean much, but I think this is taking a big chunk out of winnings.

The problem is that to be able to have a shot at the jackpot you must be able to play in the tournament at the times and dates specified by PP. I wont be able to play on saturday evenings and I don't feel like giving away 50c per pot of my money for nothing so I just withdrew all my cash from party poker.

Well, I took a bad beating at the 100NL tables Tuesday. The extra rake plus the outrageous chasing/bad beats I ran into cost me 4 buy-ins.

I'm avoiding those tables now.

I'll just play Party Point qualifiers to try to get in.

I have noticed that the Bad Beat jackpot has been hit at least 2 times this week.
