Most people i ask tell me that they are all of the same value but if i was playing in a 4 player game and we all had a royal flush which suit would win......my dad says it's hearts is he right or wrong...???

I don't believe in Texas Hold'em you can have more than one kind of royal flush in a single hand. Anyways spades is the highest suit.

I believe he's talking about 5 card draw where this could happen (1 in 9999999 maybe). I also believe it's spades. I have absolutely no clue if i'm right since I really don't remember where I took that from...

Spades is the highest hand, outside of poker, but once you start playing, all suits are equal, I believe. You split the pot if everyone has a royal flush.

Suit ranking from high to low is Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs.
Suit ranking does not matter in poker.

as for hold 'em (which this forum is all about (its in the name)) if you get more than 1 flush (straight or otherwise) out at same time, then the guy with 6 Aces wins again.
If someone is trying to tell you that 1 suit is higher than another then i would suggest you CAREFULLY read the rules of whatever game your playing.

As spaceman said, they rank spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. In hold'em you don't have to use this much but you do see it come into affect at the beginning of the game when everyone is dealt a card to see who has the button first. I saw one the other day where three aces came out and the guys with the aces of hearts and clubs started complaining about why they didn't get to deal.

What is the order of suit rankings?

I will assume for the moment that we are talking about French suits (hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades).
The short answer is: "it depends what game you are playing". The longer answer would be a list of the different ways that the suits are ranked in different games. Here are a few off the top of my head (rank from high to low in each case):
hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades: Preference, 500, Tysiacha
clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds: Skat, Doppelkopf, Sheepshead
spades, hearts, clubs, diamonds: Big Two (Choi Dai Di, Da Lao Er)
diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs: Pusoy Dos
clubs, hearts, spades, diamonds: Ninety-nine
spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs: Contract Bridge
People sometimes ask this question about ranking of suits because they want to decide which of two royal flushes is higher in poker. In that case, the correct answer (for the official casino / tournament game) is that in poker all the suits are equal, and that when such a tie occurs you split the pot. But some people do play with suits ranked as a house rule and several different rankings are used

In standard poker there is no ranking of suits. If two hands are identical apart from the suits of the cards then they count as equal. In standard poker, if there are two highest equal hands in a showdown, the pot is split between them.
However, Franco Pratesi has informed me that in Italy there is a generally accepted ranking of suits in poker. The ranking is: hearts (high), diamonds, clubs, spades (low). These ranks are used to break ties between otherwise equal hands. Other players in different places use other suit rankings - for example Ken Pikus (kpikus@chemonics.com) and John (jqv77@hotmail.com) report that their circles play with the ranking spades (high), hearts, clubs, diamonds (low); Rudolf Lercher (WLNLER@rlb-noe.raiffeisen.at) and his friends play with the ranking hearts (high), diamonds, spades, clubs (low).
However.....
If you wish to play with ranked suits YOU MUST ENSURE that the ranks (and how you will determine how ALL hands, not just flushes) are CLEARLY ESTABLISHED before play begins.

I don't think it matters in poker. I've split pots in 7card-stud where my opponent and I had equal flushes. I had 4567J of spades and he had the same in hearts. We chopped the pot and cursed the heavens. :D

When playing any poker game suits do not matter, Ive never seen suit matter when dealing for button either. First Ace usually deals.

The only time I've seen suits apply in poker is in a chip race.
At the end of a round, when they're taking lower-denomination chips out of play, they'll "race" off the extra chips, giving higher-denomination chips to the highest cards.
I've seen rules saying that in the rare case where there's a tie for the last chip to be given out, the bridge ranking is used as a tiebreaker.
Never seen it actually come into play.
