Hey guys,
finally got my hand on an internet connection.
I will give u the main highlights :
- 15 hours plane...not horrible but I'm seriously not excited about the flight back
- weather...omg, never been in such a hot place in my life...it's unreal, the wind burns even more. First day I tried to go to the Bellagio by foot from the Stratosphere...I gave up at the Circus Circus (which isnt far at all :p) and took the bus. Right now I'm only moving by cab...it's just too hot for me.
- stratosphere...well I got a bed and a roof, but $40/night, cant expect anything tremendous.
My friends were at the Wynn for 3 first days, awesome hotel...$400/night explains it :p
The cocktail girls there...WOW
I'm in there room at the Rio right now while they nap (and I will stay there next week-end to avoid paying the more expensive nights at strato)...nice hotel too.
- poker...well, not as fishy as I expected...many players from vegas...pros.
I play NL 2/5 exclusively. ($500 buy-in)
Saturday : I take $500+ at the Bellagio...nothing special, just grinded my way up.
On a side-note : I wanted to be able to say hi to just 1 famous player that is my favourite : Marcel Luske.
As I was leaving the Bellagio at 6 AM he was stepping out at same time as me so I could go shake his hand. Sounds ridiculous like I'm a little kid but whatever :p No, I didnt ask for his autograph...I find this kind of stuff useless and even more ridiculous :)
Sunday : Bellagio again. I was down $650+ and worked my way back at -$80 playing all night till 11 AM...after a dozen of Jack Daniels (hey it's free, how could I not get drunk ? :p) and a blunt smoked with some dude I met at the table. Main hand was AA all-in vs J8 on flop J high (yep, crazy dude raised the flop and insta-called my reraise all-in)...I take down a $700 pot or smthin.
Monday : wake up at 7PM, go have some food, go to the Flamingo and notice how crappy the casino is...play there at NL 1/2 for 20 mins (they dont have 2/5) and lose $50
We then go to the Wynn, play some slots (it's actually fun) then hit the Poker room at 4AM...I play there until 4PM...I was drunk as hell but still playing quite well. I leave up $1050. Hand of the day : I raise with AdKd get called by some aggressive guy. Flop comes with 2 diamonds, I bet he calls. turn is my 3rd diamond, I bet he calls. river I bet he raises to 250, I push he calls with the J high flush...I take down a 1200 pot or smthin.
By the way at the wynn there is no maximum buy-in at 2/5 and many players come with thousands at the table so your whole stack is always at risk, even when deep. The guy I took the $1200 pot from was really after me...he was nice and funny but he kept reminding that whole my stack was going his way soon...I normally wouldnt say anything to that kind of trash talk but as I was drunk I was talking back :)
Round 1PM he was starting to fall asleep...I told him he should go to bed...he said that he could play me for 3 days. At 3PM he gives up noticing I'm way more 'fresh' than him and that I'm not letting him take any of my chips.
Tuesday...well there was no tuesday since I came back at 4PM, I slept till 1:30 AM. I stay in my room till 4:30AM and...
Wednesday (today) : I go to the Rio at 5AM...play at a table for an hour then get moved as the table breaks.
I'm sitting before some scandinavian guy with a monster stack. I could immediately tell he was the typical aggressive scandi just by the way his chips were stacked : a MESS...impossible to count properly, with $100 bills under them.
I would say he had between $1500 and $2000.
He was quite drunk and was getting very very tired. He was raising preflop, raising people (who had raised preflop) on the flop, betting the turn and river like crazy and then showing the total bluff if other guy folded...I already hated him.
Long story short, I take some good pots from him and end up up $900+ at 2PM. The guy lost his whole stack while I was here, falling asleep at the table...everyone was looking at him waiting to take some of his chips, it was ridiculous.
Total : I'm up $2500 after 4 days of play (I will probably play a bit more later tonight...so all in all I'm satisfied for the moment but my general feeling is that online poker is more juicy than live.
It's a friggin crazy town...I dunno how some people can live there. As u can notice, after 3 days my sleeping pattern is already messed up.
Today I couldnt even tell which day we were.
I will try to keep you guys updated when I come sleeping at the Rio on saturday...or maybe earlier if I get a chance.
Cya

PS : Adam, I send u a pm so we can get in touch.

About time you made an appearance.
I was beginning to think you were gonna be discovered in a hole in the desert or something. But obviously you're just too tight to pay 2$ for an internet connection.
I'm glad you've been playing a lot of poker and quite surprised you haven't lost all your money.
Are you gonna play a WSOP event or not?
Posted Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:24 am GMT by UrAteUp
Great job Scan... . Keep adding to your stack and have fun. Good luck if you go for any WSOP events. Go win a bracelet. If you see Marcel again invite him into the forum... . Oh and as for the room, you can find better for a little more money if you want to switch hotels.

Dave, doesn't that statement sum up the Vegas experience perfectly?
Posted Thu Jul 27, 2006 9:45 am GMT by Dave B
It does.
My last "seminar" for work kicked off around 8-9am. I would play until 2-3 AM and figure on 4-5 hours of sleep. Then my central time biological clock would wake me up at the normal 5-6am which is 3-4am there.
Listening to boring people blab on with one hour of sleep for 4 days straight is no way to live.
Posted Thu Jul 27, 2006 12:19 pm GMT by MasterShake
You're almost better off to sleep all day out there and not even come out of your room until dinner time.

Nice report and $2,500 after 4 days is kinda nice. If you think that the flight out is ugly by the way, the flight home is way worse because you are not going towards anything great unlike on the way out! Still, it's gotta be done...............
How bad is the Strat? Take some pics or something.
You gotta go to the Mirage for poker at some point - it is my favourite room and it's pretty fishy. Check out Paris too, it might make you less homesick

Mirage 2/5 NL game is stocked with a ton of pro's. I would avoid it if that is what you are playing.

The Nugget's 1/2 game was pretty fishy, but it had a $100 max buy in.
I don't know what the rooms are like, but The Strat just reminded me of a big strip mall with cheesy shops that you had to walk by to get to the tower. It's ok if you're just looking for a bed and it's pretty equidistant from the good hotels on the strip and the downtown hotels.

Wow, Geno, I really really really wish you could've been here. You gotta meet ScanX... pretty cool guy. They played some 1/2 NL poker at the Mirage, then I met up with them at the Rio at around 8pm. I don't know exactly how they did... I know that Sid "the Lamb" Lambert played in the game... so he's getting prepped.
We checked out some of the parties they had... like 888.coms. Food and drinks that's all. The Gaming Life Expo is pretty cool... all these cardrooms basically just hire a bunch of chics to wear skimpy teeshirts with their cardrooms on it. Occassionally, their some chick with short shorts that say partypoker or something like that. And, they give away stuff, so that's cool. I'll probably see if I can get some hats or something....
I'll probably get out there to see the start of the main event. I think I'm probably gonna go with ScanX to the Bellagio to play for the Bellagio Cup II. Seems cool. I'm sure I'll take him around a bit... he wants to do whtat you did and collect chips from some of the major strip casinos.

I started trying to do that, but it became a pain in the ass, so I just collected chips from the casinos I played at.

Hey Shake,
Ebay is a chip collectors dream come too buddy. My wife picked me up some original Binions Horseshoe chips back from like 1970. I also got some of the early 70's Nuggets as well from there.

I actually like the idea of collecting chips from the casinos I've played at. I'm not looking to sell them, so it's more of a quick way to remember where I was.

I agree Shake. Great way to keep fond trips in your head.

I've also collected a $1 chip from every casino I've visited. I've got over a dozen, and I still haven't made the pilgrimage to Vegas. Maybe someday there will be a giant display case in tribute to my gambling problem.

I have 10 $1 chips from Vegas so far but I have many more to collect. Next trip, I'll see which ones I can add to the collection but it's mostly the shittier places I am missing and I'm not sure I want to cut into playing time wandering to holes like The Golden Gate downtown
Mike, wish the boys the best of luck from me, I'd give my right nut to even be railbirding right now

Of course, Geno... we'll see you out here next time. Actually, I was thinking about going to your neck of the woods, now that I know that Belgium ain't too far either. I could see you and Mika... hey maybe even Webby will crawl out of his hole! We could all meet up at the Aviation Club or something.... adam and carson too.

Sounds like a plan!
I need to go to Vegas soon too tho, I'm really, really in a funk today about that too, I should have been flying out there tomorrow
Ah well, least when i do get there i'll be free to hang with you guys and not stuck going round outlet malls or w/e

So, for now, I'm not so sure where Mika is... he disappeared though I'm sure he'll show up again. I had two funny brush ins with poker celebrities in the last two days.
The first was when I was at the Bellagio, trying to win a seat in a preliminary event at the Bellagio Cup II. Single table Satellites are $240 for a $1000 seat. I sit down in seat 10... and about 1 minute late an african american fellow sits down. I look at him, 'cause I know his face from somewhere... then I realize it's David Matthews....2nd place finisher in teh $25k event at the Bellagio. Kind of disturbing that he'd be playing this. Either way, I know he's a LAP, as you can see on the broadcast. Four hands in, he's done. Whew....
The second... we were walking Adam back to the tournament area on the first day of the event, and we were gonna be back just in time. After Sid and I drop him off, we walk back down this long corridor to look at a restaurant we could eat at. Behind me, I hear a voice politely ask, "Excuse me, which way is the World Series of Poker?" I turn around, and there's Barry Greenstein, sporting a half grin, half smile. I thought he was joking, so I immediately blurted "Very funny..." He says, "No, no, I'm not sure... I just got out of the bathroom, so I don't know which way I came from..." So, I pointed him in the right direction and he said "thank you." Really, really nice guy he is.

Introducing Joe Sebok...as Spiderman
Joe Sebok has just arrived dressed as Spiderman (due to losing the famous "The Circuit" bet with Gavin Smith).

From what I've gathered, Scan's up about 2500 from the 2/5 tables now and hasn't played in any wsop events.

I've seen his picture. ScanX has played in the Main Event before.
