Tourney Hand (4000 guaranteed)

Posted Thu Jul 27, 2006 12:47 am GMT by Yezariael
Hello,

i had this Hand happening in a Tourney not far to ITM.

Me and both villains were in top fifteen of chips.

What did i wrong apart from calling that hand at all? Maybe late position is bad in a case like this?? From watching them I had them both relatively sure on TPTK though there was no raises.
Sorry if the question is stupid i play now for 4 weeks only:

Hi and welcome to the board.
When posting hands in the future please add chip count , and it also helps if it is obvious who you are.

fold preflop.

this is not a hand you want to play with, especially when the blinds are so high compare to chip stack (seems to me like you had roughly 10XBB)

As good as the flop seems to you, you are actually even chances to win as the AQs on this flop.

But after seeing this flop with your cards, it will be very hard to fold a hand like that.

Yup, what darling said. Your hand stinks preflop...wait for a better spot.

As the hand played out on the flop, you have to go broke.

Don't see anything wrong with the call preflop, he was getting involved in a multi way pot with a hand that he could get away from easily if he didn't hit the flop hard enough, and had position if the flop came garbage.

Not every decision needs to be all or nothing, and the other side to the coin is if you are ~10xBB, you need to take chances regardless. So yeah you can throw it all in on the first Ace you see or small pair where you can race or you can try to take a flop with a marginal hand. He's probably not going to see a monster before his stack gets so low he's forced to play against a large varity of hands.

Given the flop you had no choice but to move it in. Even money or not the AQ would have been about even money if you had AJ there as well and you are not going to fold that either.

A call, fold or all-in would have been prefectly reasonable decisions given your stack size and the money in the pot and action before you holding the button.

What I would love is the "fold it" crowd to tell me the hand ranges and position (I'll go ahead and assume it's to an unopened pot) he gets to wait for in the next 3 orbits before he's forced to throw it in with any Ace.

Seriously, J8o is trash - muck it pre flop. Had it been JTs or even J9s it would have a lot more potential in a multiway pot.

Given your call PF though, there's no way you're not pushing on the flop. Sorry that second 4 came to ruin your day.
