Using the instant hand history

Posted Thu Jul 27, 2006 10:20 am GMT by misterjokerboy
I was chatting to someone the other day about using the instant hand history to see someone's cards when it's gone to a showdown and they muck their cards.

This person thought that it was cheating and shouldn't be allowed, personally I don't see a problem with it and can help get more information about a player. Having said that, you wouldn't be allowed to look at their cards in a live game.

What are everyone else's opinions on this?

Yes you would. At any showdown in a live game you're allowed to ask to see their cards. It's no different on party poker.

You learn something new everyday. I honestly didn't think you could see the cards in live play.

Cheers

Well technically you could ask every hand that sees a showdown.

It's meant to stop cheating

(I.E. two partners raise a third newb out of a pot by pressing back and forth... The third folds and then asks to see both of the other cards. One person has a monster and the other person had nothing, but appears to have been raising you into a min-raise war the whole way through... suspicious.....)

Most people don't ask.

If it were cheating, they wouldn't offer that feature.

Personally, I think it is a valuable resource, and almost everytime I go to showdown, or an interesting hand goes to showdown I look to see what everyone was playing.

QFT. I just leave it open all the time regardless of whether or not I'm in the hand. On the .10/.25 tables at Party I can usually get a general idea of how some below average players are going to play their a lot of their A/x, K/face card or pps pre-flop after about 40 hands. It's really helpful.

That is one of the best parts of using Poker tracker with a heads up display. It shows the hands that are mucked and you don't have to go check the HH.

If you fold your hand before the showdown you lose your right to ask to see the cards. You have to be in until the end to use this right. Or am I mistaken?

The details of this will be a house rule and you may be interested in asking in a new casino and you should definitely establish the rule in advance in a home game.

At my online site anyone that was dealt cards in the hand can see the hand history. No cards, no history. You don't need to have bet or called the blind, just been in the hand.

I played the Hard Rock Seminole Casino in Hollywood FL and their house rule stated that all hands in at showdown would be exposed. They didn't force the rule but if any player requested that cards be shown they would be.

I agree with others that knowing what people are willing to raise with, call down with, or even just play is a very, very valuable information source.

I always look at HH to see what kind of hands they mock - always.

If I ever play live I plan on doing the same - though I hope not to become an annoyenace to the game.

When I observ other tables I find it annoying I can't see the mocked cards but understand the thought behind it!
