Well, I'm going to be depositing for the first time very soon. I'm playing my last attempt at a freeroll at Doyle's tomorrow (1st is $67 which is awesome to start) and if I lose I will desposit somewhere. If I win I will likely pull it all out and move somewhere else unless I hear good things about Doyle's (seems okay to me, but never hear much about it)
I'm looking for a site to desposit into. I know this is like my last post but somewhat revised...
ATM, I think I'd prefer tournaments and SnGs. I feel more comfortable in those than cash games because I have more experience there. I'd love to find a site where tournaments are often full of mediocre players (heard this about Pacific) and also has some lower stake games (like .5/.10) for me to start out on.
I Really liked Full Tilt and was going to start with $50 there because of the look and feel BUT I'm not sure it fits my criterea. I don't want all donks but I'd love a site where IF I play well and know the game I'll win more than I lose most likely. Maybe I'm asking a question without a real answer but can any give me some opinions on Full Tilt or recommend another?
Thanks
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Ok this was the exact same situation as me.
I was set on using Full Tilt but a small part of me thought that my $50 wouldnt stretch very far on there.
I decided to deposist with poker stars (can always get a good table here) and has the added advantage of having very low stake games to learn on.
If the look and feel bothers you (as it did with me) then I found that poker stars has grown on me.
p.s. Full tilt has a very good referral bonus, while poker stars has nothing of that kind.

Yeh I've heard Stars and Pacific have fish tournaments.
Looking at Full Tilt it seemed the payout for MTTs is pretty bad. Perhaps I'm just not aware of what it should be, but isn't Top 3 paid (1st = $45) really low for a $10 buy-in w/ 900 people?
Edit: NVM, think I realized why it was displayed that way. My bad. Any more opinions?

Yes i also recommend pokerstars. Great low stakes. If your into SNGS then this is better then party as its $5 + 0.50 at Poker Stars and $5 + $1 at Party. Dont kno much about full tilt but they dont have anything below $10NL. So if your going to deposit a small amount such as $50 i believe PokerStars is the way to go.

Read a few reviews. Sounds like I should hold off on Full Tilt for now, maybe a little tough.
I've heard the follow have a lot of variety (lots of juicy players and some quality ones as well)
PokerStars (no bonuses or anything but lots of tourneys)
PartyPoker
PacificPoker (gives my trojan protector a spazattack when I DL lol, otherwise meh)
Titan Poker
On the off chance I win money @ Doyle's, any comments on that site?
Otherwise can anyone give me some feedback on the sites above?

If you want to focus on tourneys, in my mind there's no other choice than PokerStars.
Posted Sat Jul 29, 2006 12:48 am GMT by mooseontheloose
I've heard the PS tourneys are quite juicy. I don't expect to win everything or anything like that, just trying to make the best choice so that I can do decently and improve without being heavily outgunned while playing
BTW eliminate Titan from my list of possibles, doesn't have low enough stakes for me.

Sigh, okay I keep going back and forth. What I REALLY need is a Full Tilt vet that can give me some feedback.
I'd like to play a lot of SnGs, some MTTs and improve my cash gameplay. I remember hearing Full Tilt was tight but have realized most reviews saying that are quite old and a lot of people now say it is much looser (still has some good players but plenty of fish) TBH, I'd love to not be playing an entire table of fish every time due to huge odds against suckouts.
How are Full Tilts SnGs and MTTs? How are the bonuses for playing, like points, etc.?
Am I right or wrong about the current competition?
I was just watching a few tables and it looked pretty loose to me. Multiple people were betting/calling/chasing with hands like Q3 to the end and going to showdown with bottom pair (and were winning against idiots calling w/ NO pair) Made me unsure of what to believe.
Anyway, I'd love to try FT so if someone can help me decide whether it's for me or not, so I can rule it out, I'd appreciate it.
Otherwise, PS sounds like a good bet.

On fulltilt i've only played cash games, so I know nothing about their tournaments, except a couple of ftp point ones i've played.
Posted Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:46 am GMT by mooseontheloose
That's cool, can you give me any info on cash games? I assume, even though I have more experience with tourneys, my main profit will be cash as I'm sure most people's is.

The play in the cash games on fulltilt isnt terrible, its a little on the weak side, at the lower limits at least. People seem to fold more there than say at partypoker. If you play aggressive you can pretty much bully the tables at will. Just watch out for nutpeddlers.
Posted Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:52 am GMT by mooseontheloose
Sounds good. I'd say I'm your average tight-aggressive player so I'd like to find a site to somewhat suit me (or counter-suit me if you know what I mean lol)

I play both FT and PS . I find the average players to be the same on both. I played micro levels on PS (which FT don't reall have) and low level on both (0.05/0.10)
I also play a lot of cheap S&G and manage to get ITM a good percentage of the time on FT (haven't played any on PS)
I deposited money only on FT. I have some money transfered to my PS account (for a THP tourney) and had some left over to play micro levels only. I also play the odd freeroll on PS.
If you plan playing FT send me a pm and I'll reffer you and we both get some extra $

i guess ill reply to this....since i have tourney experience at almost every one of the bigger sites that there is.
Pacific- Yes the tourneys are full of fish. there is always the luck factor here when dealing with them. The blinds go up to quickly to be able to wait them out. and everytime the blinds go up they double, or close to every time. would not suggest this site for tourney play
PartyPoker - the blind structure is good here. but most of the time you will have 1500+ people to wait out. but on the other hand there are good payouts. but like everywhere else except for stars. it is all topweighted.
Pokerstars - Quite possibly the best blind structure that there is. the blinds go up every 15 minutes. and there are great deal of fish in these. I've cashed high in several tourneys there but took all my money out for some reason or another. I plan on depositing here again next week, just for the blind structure. They also have limits as low as .02/.05NL for cash games.
Ultimate bet - they have a good blind structure with the blinds going up every 12 minutes. for the lower level buyins...the players are usually medium skill level...In my experiences in tourneys here. most people will open push A-8 suited or better on any situation. they also have a .01/.02 NL game. very fishy
full tilt - ive been on this site for about 15 months. this is by far my favorite site to play on. so im kind of partial to it. I play the 1 AM eastern time 5+.50 tourney every night. or j ust about every night. they also have 6$ satelites around the clock. by winning one of these you get a 24$ token that u can use in any 24$ tourney. BTW every night at 10 pm et. they have a 20k garunteed w/ usually the op 110 cashing for low cash of around 55$. I've played this tourney every night for the past 2 weeks for a 6$ entry (by way of the satellite) and have cashed 10 times. they have tourney's around the clock. also full tilt will assign pro's to play in the tourney's too. if you knock out the pro. you will get your entry fee back. two nights ago Joe Beevers played in the 5$ tourney and was at my table, unfortunately i didnt knock him out. but i did last longer than him. if you decide to come to full tilt. look me up. my name is Gid Rash you can usually find me 3 or 4 tabling .05/.10 NL or playing in any tourney
hope this helps

Sounds pretty good. Full Tilt sounds like a great bet if I can deposit $100 (needed for .5/.10 correct?) and if I'm only for $50, I'll likely start w/ PS and move to Full Tilt later on.
How are the players on Full Tilt in the .5/.10 as well as the tournaments? Solid players, fishy fishes, mixture of both, etc?
Thanks

I'm a fulltilt vet myself. I play mostly $10 SNG's and occasionally $20 SNG's and MTT's. I have played a few cash games usually at the .10/.25 level. I feel most comfortable playing SNG's there. The MTTs are decent but there's a lot of fish at the lower levels. Often it's an All In fest. Don't even bother playing the $5 SNGs unless you love taking bad beats, people will call with anything. The $10 SNGs are very good for solid average players which is what I consider myself to be. You get a good mixture of people who are fishy enough to beat but not so bad that theyre frustrating to play against. Once you start with the $20 SNGs the competition gets pretty decent.
The cash games are decent, I don't know as much about cash games but there is decent competition there. YOu have some pretty tight players mostly. I don't play a lot though.
Another good option of fulltilt if youre half decent playing headsup is the 4 person 2 table heads up SNGs. Whatever the buyin is, if you win youre getting 4 to 1 on your money. It's a good investment and i make good money playing those. The SNGs are good in general, and you can increase your bankroll quickly if you cash frequently, and especially if you win one once in awhile.

in the .05/.10 ring games on full tilt, they aren't what i would call solid, but they are not extreme fishes....sure your going to get your groups of both every once in a while. but for the most part they fall into the below average category. as far as BR is concerned, i had lost everything, and then won a freeroll on there got 2$ and turned the 2$ into 15 and unlocked a 60$ bonus bringing me up to 75 and i now have 140 on there. i usually start each table with 5$ and play very TAG. this week ive flopped the nuts several times only to have someone ahead of me push all in w/ at least 1 or 2 callers before it comes to me. what does that tell you

I think I'll desposit $50 over at Stars, work it up to $100ish and move over to Full Tilt (unless I fall in love with Stars)
Is there a bonus at Stars?
Posted Sun Jul 30, 2006 2:31 pm GMT by ninetensuited
not that i know of, I'm depositing 50$ on stars this week as well, mainly for the forum vs. forum challenge. but ill be playing low limit cash games. let me know your name on there and i'll look you up.

You must have been looking at a nine player SNG payout. Their tournament payout for that number of people is 23% for first or $2070.

Naw, I just accidently clicked on one with almost no one registered so the payout was minimal. Think I editted the post and noted I made a mistake.

I've now narrowed it down to Doyle's or PokerStars.
I've heard PS had tough competition, even at micro (I might've been misinformed) while Doyle's is the opposite. Doyle's SnG's are 9 player max (I think) while the 180 SnGs at PS are sort of like mini-MTTs which is cool.
Has anyone played both? Can anyone give me comparison feedback on:
a) Competition of the players
b) Tournaments (structure, quality of competition, variety, etc.)
c) Cash games (same info as tournament)
Thanks guys, again!

I have played at both.
i havent played a whole lot of cash games, but for the most part doyles room seems easier on that front,
but on the tournaments doyles room is no where near as good as PStars tournaments, PStars IMO has the best blind structure for MTTs on the net (of all the places that i have played.) and well DR's structure, plain sucks

Hmm okay. Well I'd love to play a lot of MTTs and SnGs but feel to start off I might be better with cash games, maybe I'm wrong.
If you take everything into account, would you suggest PS or Doyle's?
Posted Mon Jul 31, 2006 4:30 pm GMT by mooseontheloose
Oh also, any opinions on Titan?
Posted Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:59 pm GMT by mooseontheloose
Played a tourney on PS earlier (freeroll) just to see how the blinds felt compared to Doyle's and WOW. At Doyle's in the 1000 player freerolls I often felt rushed, like a race with the blinds but at PS (it was a much larger freeroll but still) I felt like I could actually play my game, wait for chances, etc.
And now that I found out how to change PS themes (default = puke) I'm leaning there as well. Just a little worried with so many people playing the competition may be somewhat tough.

Will be depositing tonight finally Any last suggestions, opinions, etc?
Leaning to PS right now, ty!
