$50 BR: Where to start?

Posted Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:59 am GMT by mooseontheloose
Another post, sorry lol.

I'll likely be starting out with $50, how exactly should I use that money to get going? I assume the .5/.10 tables when playing cash and maybe throw in a couple $5 SnGs/MTTs?

Edit: I'm wrong here, I should be starting at .2/.4 tables correct? Should I dabble in SnGs and MTTs or wait til I get up over $100?

If you're willing to take a bit of a risk and put in an extra $5 ($55 total), I think you could start playing the $5.50 SnG's on Stars. The competition there is not hard, and 10 buy-ins ought to be enough to get you started with a little luck. I'd stick with the $5 tournaments until you get up to a solid $220 before moving up to the $11 SnG's (not that the competition there is any better).

Agreed. Stars is also good because of the low limit cash game possibilities but some other sites offer those too.

Just won $1.13 at a 9 person SnG @ Doyle's! lol, had like $0.50 from a freeroll so I spent $0.25 on an SnG for fun and ended up taking it down.

I would stay away from $5 S&G until your bankroll has improved a little.

I try to play the bigger $1 buyin on FT. I play the 45 one often and won it twice. You get $17.5 for you small investment. I play the 9 ppl often as well ans won it a couple of time to. But the $4.5 doesn't do much to improve ones BR.

You need to be ITM 30% of the times to break even. Thats not that easy ...

Should I focus mainly on $0.02/0.04 cash games and maybe the odd $1-5 MTT until I can get up to around $100?

Some people suggest SnGs, some don't hehe. Not sure Wink

I'm only new but i'm not sure it's wise to focus on cash goals. You'll hit lows/swings and having these goals in your mind will not be good for your morale. Just look at playing the best possible poker on each and every hand you can for a while and then take it from there.

Agreed. I wasn't saying $100 because it is my short-term goal (guess it could be as well in a sense) but because it seems that I may not have a big enough BR to play MTTs and SnGs consistantly with only $50.

What I meant was, should I focus on the $0.02/0.04 cash games until I get around $100 at which time I can move into SnGs and MTTs of $5 or less buy-in?

i play a lot of low limit cash games. but my bread and butter is MTT's. On stars im going to deposit 70$ instead of the 50$ i stated in another thread. basically so i can play the 10$ tourney for the forum challenge and so i can play the 4$ 180 man sngs and 3$ +.30 mtts as they usually have over 1500 players. good luck you to!
