Personally, I didn't like anyone's play of that hand. But you know what you're doing I guess...

Posted Mon Jul 31, 2006 4:43 am GMT by MrDarling
omg supa , you called 5XBB with this.
then flopped two ways bellybutton str8 draw and called a pot and a half bet chasing?

You one lucky fish Smile

but I see nothing wrong with Villain play. He made a nice raise on the flop. The turn was scary and with supa calling the Preflop and flop bet one can easily put him on a hand like AJ. He lost his balls and wanted to see a cheap showdown - sadly , I would probably do the same.
Supa, would you put it down to another pot bet on the turn?

Of course he wouldn't lay it down, he wouldn't be a proper fish if he didn't. His pot odds were so far out the window after the flop it wasn't even funny, not to mention the crazy call pre-flop. But poker is poker, and sometimes it's better to get lucky than to play well.

Can someone please tell me what a "Bellybutton" straight draw is???

Does he mean a gutshot?

Posted Mon Jul 31, 2006 10:10 am GMT by Gunslinger
I assume he meant the double gutshot.

Posted Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:01 am GMT by supafrey
He meant a "double bellybuster", obv, which means a double gutshot.

Not that I'm one to really care to defend my plays, there's alot of things you have to remember here.

1. I can't believe the shortstack folded behind me.
2. The shortstack had too little to reraise me.
3. My call would be a scary one (gets me a river, maybe)

So I decided to run the numbers on POSSIBLE hands (Yes, I obviously was in the mood to gamble with a fairly borderline play, but I'll stick with it)...

Cards %win %lose %tie Pot equity Odds
As Ac 48.39 51.61 0.00 48.40% 0.94:1
9h 8h 35.33 64.67 0.00 35.30% 0.55:1
Ks Qd 16.28 83.72 0.00 16.30% 0.19:1

Cards %win %lose %tie Pot equity Odds
Qc Td 48.28 51.72 0.00 48.30% 0.93:1
9h 8h 21.48 78.52 0.00 21.50% 0.27:1
Kh Jh 30.23 69.77 0.00 30.20% 0.43:1

RESULTS: Cards %win %lose %tie Pot equity Odds
As Ac 64.65 35.35 0.00 64.60% 1.82:1
9h 8h 35.35 64.65 0.00 35.40% 0.55:1

Thoughts?

Edit: MrDarling how in the heck would I have AJ ?! And yes, I would lay it down on the turn.

Some of y'all watch too much tv!

"Loosey goosey" on another thread supa, "nits" here, So where's the raisey daisey thread?

Too much High stakes poker!

And MrDarling is it? If you insist on quoting Mike Sexton.... get it right Razz Double bellybuster not bellybutton! Laughing Mike is probably only person to use that term anyway, so prolly better to stick to "gutshot"

Hey! I'm not the mod of poker on tv forum for nothing you know!

I think we can all agree that Phil Ivey is one of the best poker players on the planet and he said something recently I agree with and had recently decided. Pot odds are overated.

Anything but an A, K, J or 9 and I'm sure he bets the turn. SO naturally he thought you hit the strait when the K fell. Then you check and he thinks maybe you didn't make it. If you bet the turn he folds right there.

You had 8 outs to make a strait, but an addtional 11 that give you a believable bluff.

19 cards that help your cause. 2.5 to 1 and still the river left.

your flop call seemed fishy at first, but after thinking about it, I kind of like it.

The play: It's not the kind of call preflop that i would make too often, but once you're in, you pretty much have to see the turn with that double gutbuster bellyflop draw, his big mistake was not following through on the turn. Would you have called $100 or so on the turn? Would you have re-raised?

Somehow i can see you moving all in if he bets on the turn.

I have no problem with your play, that's your style, it seems to work for you so sure why not.

The turn check is typical nitty suckiness.

You played it ok. You really could make the river bet somewhat larger.

I say bet more when you hit that straight like 100 or 150 even show some balls and get paid if youre gonna make such a crazy play..then again betting so small is asking to get reraised though and he shouldve been reraised by teh set!
