I plan on going to Greektown early Aug because I believe it's got the closest casino poker room to where I live (Akron, OH). Does anyone know of a web site I can go to or know of info about whether or not they have tournaments there? Or other info like the dollar amounts of the tables? I checked their website, but it's pretty vauge. Any other info would be helpful too!

Well, Greektown is pretty high limit, they have 3 5-10 tables and 1 10-20, and 1 20-40 table for hold-em...
They have a tourney for the next 7 weeks on monday starts @ 9am get there about 6/7am to get in line for signups as they only take the first 50 people. 30$ entry.. if you win you get I think 1000$ and an entry into the 10k$ tourney in august..
Good luck

Jahred is correct with the price and number of tables. Here is their web site http://www.greektowncasino.net/
I was up there last Tuesday, First time ever in a casino (newbie). I got there at 3pm sat down at the table at 5:30pm. Give them your credit card and they'll give you a beeper, so you don't have to wait. You can also call ahead 1hr to get your name on the list.
I liked the $5-10 because it is enough that you can bluff. I've played home poker since grade school (now 37) but never in a casino. I bought in for $100 dropped down to $65 (beat by a bigger full house), I left at 8pm and was $130 up .
Tell them you are a first timer and never bet more than you can afford to lose and you'll have a good time.

So what's the minimum buy in for $5-10?

Probably $100, but you should have far more than that at the table at any given time. I'd be happy with $500 at a $5/$10... shows the other players you mean business.

Yep $100 was min buy in. First time doing I wasn't willing to lose more than that. Next time I may go to $300. You can rebuy at the table as long as your money is declared before the begining of the next hand
