Honestly without exaggeration, how much do you guys make a month playing online poker? Is it possible to make a living offa this? Im just a college student and doing something part time for cash would be great. With enough practice could I make 2000 a month playing online?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

If you really dedicate yourself to it, a couple years from now you could possibly be making 2000 a month.

Yes it's possible, but it's a long slow grind that must be done with proper bankroll management. getting there within a year is not unreasonable. Even if you start to make money consistently I wouldn't working until you have consistently made money for a long time.

Possible? Yes. Probable? Ehhh.
Think before you entertain the concept of poker for a 2k month profit, you'ld first need be able to accept that you could lose 2k a month (or more) trying it. Most players that play 'for a living' have large bankrolls and savings to get them through the rough patches. I'm assuming that as a student you dont have that kind of padding.
Play it for fun for awhile, but do not jump in looking at it as an income. For 2k, you'ld have to average 100 a night, 5 nights a week. What limits would you be playing? 100 a night average on nickel and dime tables is a stretch. Moving to a 2/4 table, doable so long as you can accept the risk of loss. There will be losses. Bigger pots attract better players. Not every day will be a winning day. It's a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. The last thing you want is those losses to get you tilted making the situation even worse.
Your immediate financial solutions lie in... and the students are going to hate this.... a job. Far too many students are now throwing cash into casinos looking for the easy way out, which is why they are often the subject of discussions to promote the pending legislations regarding poker and online casinos.
Yes, thats me saying that the school kids are the ones screwing this up for the rest of us.
Holdem is a great game, and can be fun. This roller coaster ride is awesome, but it needs to be ridden responsibly. If you make some cash on the ride, good job. Just make sure you can afford the risks. For every player that makes 2k, there's another that lost 2k.

At the right stakes, $2k a month is easily achievable. But $24k a year is barely enough to live, even if you're single. Not to mention no benefits.
As a student, I've made much more from Poker than from any low wage job I could get, but like vyni said, I'm realistic enough to know I need a real job... and I want to be a teacher anyway, so it all works out.

The secret is, never deposit into a poker site more then you are willing and can afford to lose.
Sure, few around here can easily make 2k a month. but you have to consider :
1. how long it took them from starting to play until they get there
2. how much they need to invest to get to this level (I read a lot of player that invested 2-3K until they started seeing a profit
3. only 10% of players online actually make money from poker.
Though I'm not a student, I'm looking into using poker as a source of income. But my deposits are small and well thought of - I will never spend something that will put me into big problems if I lose.
Only been playing poker for 4 month and only 1 month for real money.

Sorry for going off topic but i'm starting my education degree soon You're my idol.
Basically, when I start studying again next year I'll be keeping my part time job to keep afloat and try to make a little money from poker. I'm not going to make it out as if my poker income(if any) is do or die. I'll just be trying to having fun whilst learning the game, and if my bankroll flourishes then that's a plus. I have to be realistic here, lol.

I plan on becoming a teacher too.
How much do I make a month playing poker? Well I'm not playing anymore so that would be... nothing.
