Let's share the "good" times

Poker forums are too laced with stories of the shitty end of variance.

Let's brag. But wait: we can't brag about the brilliant bluffs we made, or the great laydowns. This is where we brag about the missteps that went right, the 'bad beat' turned to 'good beat' (or turned to 'justice' depending on how unlucky you feel) etc. Any unlikely poker story, that ended up with US on top.

The ones I can think of off hand:

I was playing a little $10 NLHE homegame tournament... I was down to 5-6BBs, and finally find a hand: AhJh in MP. Folds to me, I shove. The button trips over himself to get his chips in, and shows AsAc.

Flop comes Ts Td 5h. I stand up. Turn J. River J. I sit down.

I didn't even cash in the tournament, but I can't think of any tournament thing I remember more vividly Smile

Another one doesn't quite turn into as good of a story... but basically: I was playing Heads-Up LE with somebody online. My brother was watching. Over around 45 minutes, I took ~100BBs off him. There were literally like 3 times in a row where he bought in (he was buying in for 10BB at a time) and lost it all on the first hand. I don't know if he was just a maniac, or if he was just kinda aggressive and completely tilted to the max, but I do know that it was, with little doubt, the most sickening runs of cards I have ever seen in my life, and he just kept reloading.

I'm gonna dig through the depths of my memory and my blog to see if I can jog the memory on some more events... but let's share the stories, you lucksacks (Supa, I'm looking in your direction)

Here's 1 I've told before I believe:

6-max FL 2/4.

I'm UTG+1 and open-raise with Q Club T Club , guy to my left 3-bets and I call.

Flop:
8 Club J Club J Diamond
So I've got an gutshot straight draw and a flush draw.

I check, he bets, I check-raise, he calls.

Turn:
9 Club

I turned the stone nuts. I decide that I should just bet, hoping to get a call with a big club or maybe he had actually had a hand like 3 jacks or a boat.
I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, to my surprise he caps. I call.

River:
x

Now I'm pretty sure he has a boat here, probably 88. I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he caps! I flip my straight flush for the nuts and he shows...JJ in the hole! Dude flopped four jacks and I turned a 1 outer Laughing

Just too bad it wasn't live where there wouldn't be no cap to the raises.

I was hosting a small NL tourney game and had an old friend over who wanted to learn the game. I was just chatting on about how the way you make in poker is to capitalize on people's mistakes and donks who can't fold their 2-4 outers. So we get HU, flop is 2 J J when I'm holding AA, we get all in (since I'm a donk), he flips AJ, turn blank, river A. Ship it!

Another time I was playing in a 10,000 player freeroll and wanted to leave cause I was bored. So I go all-in alot, get called alot, I win 6-7 consecutive 30/70s in my disfavor and have a stack 3-4 times bigger than 2nd place, and end up taking down 3rd place in the tourney later on.

Good times. :D

here is one from a newbie, i DID end up on top no matter what you think:

in a freeroll wiht blinds at 10/20 i am CO and get 99, three calls to me so i limp. button calls sb folds, bb checks. flop come 9j9! whoa, nut city!!

checks around to me, i played my usual 2x bet post flop and...

EVERYONE FOLDS Very Mad

i could not believe it, a freeroll full of all-inners?? WTF???!!!???

oh well, at least i got 5 BBs. which is technically coming out on top.....

my next best is a time in a .01/.02 6 seat ring game on titan and i had something or another. i bet down to the turn card which did not help me. but apparently it helped the villian who made a raise that would have put me all-in to call. i decided to fold it, one of my kids jumped onto my lap as i clicked "fold" and it made me click "call" by mistake. i hit my card on the river and doubled through by accident. and, honestly, i ALMOST felt bad about it. Really.

cheers
jerry

I had one just last night agains my buddy who plays for a living. Game is 1/2 NLHE, we both have stacks over $500 (it was a dealer's choice game where we played a bunch of different games).

Four limpers to my buddy on the button who limps. I limp with the Kc7c from the SB. Big blind checks and we go to the flop 5-handed.

Flop is Ac Tc 3c. I check. It is checked around to my buddy who makes it $20 to go. I flat call and everyone else folds.

Turn is 4s. I check. He bets $75 (two overbets in a row is unlike him). I check raise for $100 more and he quickly goes all-in. I of course call and turn over the nuts. He mucks and we don't even see the river.

Wheee.........
