First of all, thanks for hosting another game last night MJJ. $50 buy in, 16 guys or so, NL, well organized and well run. I am sorry I couldnt have hung out for longer.
Anyway, I am a little more involved early than I would like to. I made one play and someone went all in, so I mucked. So 45 minutes in, 3rd round, blinds now 150/300, I have about 13,000 from 15,500 starting.
I am in the big blind w/ J5. UTG raises to 700, I was going to fold, but one weak player makes a call, so I am getting 5:1, I call 400 more.
Flop J95 rainbow. I check to raiser, he bets 1500. Other player folds. There was 2250 in the pot, now 3750 after the bet. I throw out a 5k chip-raising 3500.
He reraise to 10k total. I have 6500 left. The only thing that made sense after his early raise was AJ or an overpair (the table had been tight early-so small raises were taking down a lot of pots).
I move all in (small raise of 1600) and get called. He has JJ.
Could I have avoided this or was I sunk? Fold preflop? Just call the flop? BTW-the river was an ace, so I might have saved some chips by folding a river bet if I smooth called. I could fold w/ the board AJ965, but the flop of J95 I couldnt get away from.

I can't say I wouldn't make this call. I probably would have put them on either AJ or the OP and then pissed myself when I saw the set.
When your the one with two pair and raise and then get re-raised all-in, it screams to me someone has a big hand and my two pair might not be any good. Still don't know if I could get away from this with your hand Dave.
I think the best way to have played this is not to have, fold pre-flop even if your getting pot odds.

5 to 1 odds in BB, I would call w/ almost any 2 cards.
You flopped 2 pair on a fairly harmless board- nothing you can do. If you fold this you are playing weak, call is possible, but raise is the 'right play' I think- just bad luck he hit his set.
Also, based on who hit the set- could have easily been a play he would make with a big pair, or AK/AQ/AJ.
I think you were just destined to go broke there
Another game in a couple weeks, I'll let you know
