The new PS rake is killing me. 2500 hands (-$1.60) or so, BUT over $33 in rake paid.
The problem is as I play tight tables, where I make the most profit, a lot of the pots are small, as in under $5. The old way, this pot was not raked until the pot hit $5 so I would get a lot of rake free pots. The pot was never raked until the pot had 5bb in it.
with the new system the pot is raked as soon as 1 bb is in it
$.50/$1.00-----$0.05 for each $1.00 in Pot
In order to get it back to the rake schedule the way it was before the change, aka no rake unless 5bb in the pot I need to play $2/$4
$20 Pot = $1 rake
I can get it halfway back by playing $1/$2. At that level there is no rake until the pot has 2.5bb in it.
$1.00/$2.00 2-10 $0.25 for each $5.00 in Pot
Now the main problem. Bankroll $540 give or take a buck or 2. I have earned over $900 this year but needed $350 for an auto repair so $540 is what I have.
$2/$4 could be deadly, I know, but it would get the rake schedule back to where it was before. $1/$2 perhaps where I get it halfway back, but of course I don't have the standard 300 big bets for that level either.
Or stay at .50/$1 and deal with it. I could start playing tables that are looser thus giving higher pots, but the swings for me there are so damn wild, and I have ALWAYS done so so so much better at the tight tables where I can steal like a thief and bluff out my timid opponents so easily. I am not looking for a debate on tight vs loose tables as we all have our strengths and weaknesses, but with the rake system being what it is, do I have the "choice" any longer?
I will conclude with the fact that I have no desire to leave Poker Stars so going to another site is a non issue. I feel comfortable at PS, I know the players, have tons of notes on them, and would rather take a chance playing higher limits under rolled than leave Poker Stars.
Input appreciated

If you ultimately choose to go higher in stakes, the players will change, as will your notes and your "reads". Wouldn't this be no different than changing sites?
I know you don't like the idea, but a move may be the only thing that's in order for you. Personally, I'd try the looser tables where the rake wouldn't be entirely coming from my own wallet, but if you say you have a system that works then perhaps this isn't for you. I honestly don't know what your options would be other than relocation or just sucking it up. Moving up in stakes with an insufficient roll will be a disaster. I promise you. Not to mention that the quality of play will rise - couple that with added variance issues in comparison to your roll and you will not be a happy camper.

Put your sorries in a sack.

You make some valid points Super, thank you. I think the best option may to be the looser/higher pot amount tables at .50/$1.
Dave, sorries in a sack???? Huh?

I think playing underolled is probably the worst idea out of the 3.
The three being a loser table, a new site or 2/4.
I don't doubt your skill, but I have been reading your blog for months, and I think you will just like self destruct if you hit a downswing, especially being underolled.
If you bust, I don't think you can just throw in a few more hundo and start playing again, and if that is the case then just play looser or something.
You want to be a pro right? If that is the case then you are going to have to learn how to adapt to different tables and scenarios. You need to learn how to play the loose tables in order to improve.

Agreed. After I made the post, I realized I like having the cushion of the 300bb mininum standard and the current 500bb+ I have for my curtrent level. The swings can be large, but the looser higher pot amount tables at my current level seem to be the best and quite frankly, only choice for me to maintain the rigid discipline I have tried so long to develop and maintain.
