Wow, he played me like a fiddle

Would a better way to play this have been bet the flop, then check/fold the turn (obviously the way it played out I should've got allin, but generally, when called on that flop, what do you do?).

I wasn't even mad when he showed, I was just kinda like Shocked right on, nice play haha

Don't call with ATo OOP.

Reraise or fold, imo.

By the way, if you are going to call it and you are going to bet the flop, then why not check raise if you put him on a hand he can't call?

It risks more chips, but it's a stronger play, and you will pick up a bigger pot by letting him continuation bet, and you look like you have a stronger hand.

I only wouldn't do this, because I am usually reraising or folding in that spot and taking the lead of the pot.

1. You called out of position with ace 10 in the small blind, probably not the greatest idea.

2. You don't give it up on the flop, instead you bet it, which doesn't give you any information, possibly going for a check-raise here or just check folding is probably a better line

Thanks for the advice

So, I should've reraised or folded. If I would have been in position on flop, would it be the same, or could I call?

i could not put him on either a 2 or a 5... and referring to the situation u had more than half ur stack in i believe?? i woulda pushed on the turn pretty sure of having the best hand

As in if you had position on him? If you did then you give him first chance to bluff at the pot and take it down. I think I'd reraise or fold and pretty much never call, with position and I was planning to raise his continuation on the flop then I would call sometimes, but not often.

You guys really don't call or raise with ATo ? Not even in these levels?

Wow, I really need to consider my starting hands again.
I usually trash any Ax lower then T. But AT , I'll often limp and sometimes even raise from LP - talking about low level poker here.
As it is, I often play less then 25% of then hands.
Should I really play more suited connectors and less AX hands?

As for the above hand, seems like he had an excellent read on you and new you to be weak or not bet unless you got the nuts (I often fall into that category)

I think most people are saying they don't JUST call with AT, they either reraise to take down the pot or consider folding it. They have to play the rest of the hand OOP, and AT is pretty strong for 5 handed, but if he misses the flop he's in a bad spot to a miniraise.

Reraise is probably the best move, smooth calling a mini raise OOP with AT is an iffy play.

You don't need much of a hand to raise, but you need a hand to call and AT isn't really one of them.
