My bankroll was at $1100 at that start of the summer and now because of a downswing and some unforseen expenses my bankroll is now gone. I can't afford to deposit anywhere near that amount again, probably for a while.
Should I deposit again, a small amount which would probably be around $100 or should I just take a long break from playing? I've been thinking about it for a while and I'm not sure what to do.

Only you can answer that question. It depends how much you want to play. If you really do then depo again, if not then leave it and come back to it when you do.

i say save up an amount before depositing because from personal experience small amounts are quite difficult to build on

Depends if you're willing or able to grind it out at lower limits. I'm used to .25/.5 and up and if I'm suddenly forced to play the penny games, I'll probably drop my bankroll fairly quick.

From my experieince, small amounts are fine to build on, so long as you play within your bankroll.

QFT....smartest thing I heard from his puss in a long time... .
Johny you know you can build $100 into a nice bankroll. You know you have the skill to do it. If you want to play you will....

That in itself is your answer.
You have 2 very clear options: play lower limits with the smaller roll, or wait and play with a larger roll later. Nothing anyone here tells you should be your answer.
If it were me, I wouldnt do anything until I was sure of myself. Hitting lower limits should be a breeze compared to the higher limits you're accustomed to, but at the same time the lowered level of play may drive you insane, leading you into limits outside your new bankroll... putting you down again.
But since the topic is 'opinions needed'... I would welcome the opportunity to take advantage of the poor judgement seen on the lower limit tables, all the while contributing additional funds to my bankroll as it became available until I worked my way back up to my previous limits.
