Bankroll Management and Me |

For most of my poker playing career I have played almost exclusively live home games, but two or so weeks ago, I bought in on PokerStars with $20, mostly just to fool around. As of now I am sitting around $45 dollars, and have been playing mostly 0.01/0.02, with a few $1, 45 person tourneys, and a couple $3 turbo 1 table SNGs. Ive had my ups and downs, and out of 8 of those tourneys I have cashed three times. My question to you guys is, from a bankroll management sense, how long should I be playing these blinds? Should I be playing these MTT tournaments or are they too much of long shots? The lowest 1 table SNGS on pokerstars are $3 turbo, which im not a huge fan of. Any sort of advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Play at those levels till your comfortable to move up and feel your comfortable with moving up. If your wanting to move up in SNG levels then the basic bankroll rule is to have 20x the buyin of the SNG. As for ring games, many say 100x max buyin is needed. Personally I am banging it out at the $0.05/$0.10 tables at my site. My bankroll stands at $200 now which is 10x the max buyin at the levels I play.

Who says this?
You should be perfectly fine with 20-35 max buyins.
100 buyins would be having a $1,000 bankroll to play 10NL.

I've deposited $50 into FT .
I play the lowest tables which are 10NL - $0.05/0.10 and the $1 S&G (9 and 45 players) I'll also play any $1 MTT that comes my way, though they are rare , and usually late.
Now that I put most of my time in S&G, I play the lowest Omaha PT and FL Stud to pay back when I don't make it ITM... In the low levels, most players really have no clue how to play Omaha and its fairly easy to profit from a made hand.
Anyway, as for BR management, I think my NL ring game suffer because I actually do not have enough to play in this level (thats why I moved to PL and FL) If you have only 5-10 buyins. You are first worry about putting your money in. since if you gamble and lose 5 times in a row, you are out of money. Once you get to 20-50 buyins, losing one buyin is not such a big deal and you can play more confident.
So again, this is way I play now S&G (Its only a $1 so I'm not to bothered to gamble when necessary) and stay away from NL...
Last, I played very little in PS, and found the higher level ($0.02/$0.05) actually easier then the lower level. In those days I liked pushing people around regardless of the cards, and it seems much harder in the nickel games (either they really didn't understand poker, or they were not worry about their nickels)

This post finally triggered me to get off my duff and post something I've been meaning to do for quite a while. I went ahead and added it as a new topic so you'll have to see Bankroll Management--An Opinion in this forum.

I think 15-20 buy in for either sng or cash game is fine. If you start dropping too fast, take a break and go down limit a bit untill you get back on track.
Many ppl including me in the past do the opposite and go up in limit instead to try and make it back quickly. Its bad very bad, it may work 1-2 times but eventually will cripple you even more.
