I'd bet about 1/3-1/2 your stack, then get the rest in on the turn.

Sometimes I'm just afraid of letting villian draw to the overcard and beat my QQ.

I feel like the action indicates they may have K or A and if one comes, I may be losing the pot.
But clearly I leave money on the table by not playing it farther. A hole in my game I need work on.

you can't be afraid of a single card - thats 3 out he has to beat you.
I make a move like that when there is a draw, not giving them the odds to call - which they often do anyway.

In a board like that, my guess that any bet he will lay down unless he hit the J - and if he did have AJ , he's going to call the push most of the time. and now you need to worry about 6 outs.

I don't like the push here because you will only be called by a hand that beats you (unless some donk thinks AJ is good). So, you win no more when you are ahead and you are a 9-1 dog when called and behind.

I think it would have been better to bet at least half the pot (this isn't a draw heavy board), and then get more in on the turn if no Ace or King comes.

yeah, its that "if no A or K comes" that I push to avoid.
I push to take it down. I really didn't expect a call or want one.
I'm glad I asked. I need to become better at value betting and playing less scared when I know I'm ahead. I've been sucked out on so many times, as we all have, I don't want to give villian a chance to suck out. I spose part of being a great player is making it expensive for people to chase, and when they do suckout, lay it down and cut your losses. In the long run this will make more money than lose. Thanks for the input.

half the pot
half the pot
half the pot

Bet about half, if an ace or king comes on the turn, I'll shoot another bet and fold to a reraise if I'm first to act, or small bet the turn and check the river if I'm in good position.

While i wouldn't push (I want to make more money), several hands call at this level ... all the way down to JTs, easily.

learning to value bet is a big step in poker ability. I slightly improve my skill in that.
look at the hand this way : The biggest hand out there that DOESN'T beat you yet is AJ. You are still 75% a head of this.
A value bet of 1/2 - 1/3 the pot is your best friend. You actually want AJ to call. You also want AK to call.

Sure, 25% of the time you will lose to a suck out. And another 5% of the time you'd get slow played by A's K' or a set. But if you manage to get more money for your premium hands, its should diminish your losses when they suck out on you!
