I've played in places where the check raise is not allowed. Of course I've never returned to those places.

lol, never heard of it being disallowed, that is plain retarded. Hey, do you also make flushes with 4 cards and call a full house the "overloaded shack"? :D

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the guy who said it was illegal was 60+ years old.

Several home games and a few poker rooms in the US do NOT allow a checkraise (known in some homegames as "no sandbagging"). Establish this before you play.

haha that IS retarded

imagine walking into a poker game and the floor man tells you "and remember son, no value betting, bluffing, or overbetting allowed" Laughing

The first visit to Las Vegas I played at Excalibur, on the wall was listed the rules including it was legal to check/raise. I noticed it in a couple of other casinos as well. Must have been at some point it was not legal or some places don't allow it since it was listed as a rule.

I wouldn't like to play anywhere that didn't allow it, it's a pretty standard part of poker IMO.
