I started playing in the summer of 2004, and started playing seriously keeping track of my bankroll since December 2004.

From there I went bust twice, and really I've only been making a steady profit since around March/April of this year. Since then I've been able to pay all my bills for the summer and take a nice Hawaiian vacation, and I still have a little over $3000 that is dedicated specifically to play Poker.

Take your time. Educate yourself. Immerse yourself in this forum. It will all help your game, trust me. Just don't expect to make a lot of money overnight.

Yeh, I think people just need to be realistic and realize that making 100x their investment isn't going to come easy.

I have played poker for fun on and off for probably 2 years but not really for real money. I have only been playing seriously (for real money, online) for about 1 month or so and even though my BR is around what it was originally I feel my game has improved a lot. My basic gameplan is to keep my BR steady, even if I don't go up much as long as I can remain around even I'm cool, and work on my game. Within a few months, say by 2007, I'd like to be seeing some steady profit (nothing huge though) while I continue to improve.

I think some people probably watch it on TV and think it's easy enough to make big bucks. In reality, most guys that make good money at poker have been playing and studying the game for a long time - if any old new comer could make $10,000-$30,000 per year at poker the game would've died a long time ago.

Read some books...
Invest your inital BR, within your limits...
Play, play, play and play some more...
Review and reread to correct holes/mistakes...
Assume you WILL lose money at poker in the beginning...
Play some more...

After a while your hard work will pay off, just remember that poker IS hard work if you really want to be successful Smile

I have been playing poker since about 6 or 7 years ago after the movie Rounders came out. At this time I did not take it as seriously as I do now (not saying that I take it too seriously now thought). It started just player for quarters or whatever with some friends.

Wow , I only learnt NL Holdem 4 month ago - played 2 month play money and playing with real money since July 1st. Deposited only $50 - which is really not enough to play even the lowest levels at my site (10NL) - lost it within 20 days or so. Deposited another $50 , and now through a little better BR management I almost manage to keep it even while clearing up my bonus.

It good to hear about you guys who now live from Poker the amount of time and money it took until you passed into the semi-pro stage, but its also quite dis¡hartening , Do I really want to invest $1000's until I discover if I have it in me or not?

Good - Its not just me that loosers. !
I have played online Limit hold-em for about 6 weeks and have consistent losers amount to $120.

I play on PokerRoom at the moment. Are they considered a 'good' table for learning hands?. They have statistics which i use, but can anyone recommend a better table for analysis? Smile

what is considered the best is to use PokerTracker that u run at the same time as the poker site u're playing on.

However it doesnt work with all the sites

And probably doesn't work with Mac's either Sad

What I do is read my HH religiously . Especially when I had a big loosing session, or lost in a tourney.

HH= hand history

Look around when you open a table you should be able to find it.
