Game is $1/$2 NL, $100 max buy-in. It's Canadian money, which is practically Monopoly money. Game is probably very tough, except for Supafrey in the 6 seat, but I can't really tell because I'm more concerned with the $60-$100 worth of alcohol I've had since the session started and showing down K4 off-suit than winning money. I'm in the 10-seat, and the 9-seat busts and leaves. We get a new 9-seat, somebody between the ages of 30-50 who seems tight-ish and too serious not to hate my drunk ass. A few hands prior to the one I'm about to describe, Pavel asked "What do you do for a living sir?" and he said "I do this for a living," feigning reluctance.
I have about $150 behind. I lost 4 buy-ins because of bad luck, and then this buy-in I won $50 so far based on my superior skill. I look down on 8d8c UTG, and raise to $15 because I have a pair and I don't want some drawing hand like AK to suck out on me. Folds to the 9-seat in the BB, who says "Do you want the action?" I reply "I'm not sure, sir" which was enough to make his tough decision into an easy call. I figure I'm about a 9:1 favorite at this point, but I tend to make those estimates conservative, since I don't want to gamble too much when I can just outplay him later.
My read on him at this point is that he thinks he's much better than he is, which is 'coincidentally' my read on everybody else I play with. I reckon his read on me is that I think I'm much better than I really am. He's probably right.
The flop comes out 8h 2h 5h. I "double check" my hole-cards long enough to make sure he sees me doing so, and he bets $25. I check my cards one more time, say "I'm all-in," push my chips into the pot, and stare him directly in the eyes without flinching. He hems, haws, and calls with Kh Jc. My set holds up. How awesome am I at poker, and how much worse of a hand would he call me with had I been wearing a backwards hat and sunglasses?
