Outdrawn

Posted Mon Aug 21, 2006 6:12 am GMT by Oasis
Ok so I really didn't put that guy on a flush draw. I thought he would of checked on the turn for a free card yet didn't so that was the reason I called his all on the river even though the spade fell.

I'm thinking maybe a 2/3 pot sized bet on the turn to put him at a decision, but of course your thoughts are desired.

Cheers.

I think you ought to take the initiative in this hand on the flop. There are three other players seeing the flop which includes both flush and straight draws.

Since you didnt raise the flop you should really make a raise on the turn, two players are clearly interested in this pot. One of them have played the hand like a draw (Bebro) and the other like he actually has something worth betting (couga).

Your decission on the river would have been a lot easier if you would have raised at some point on the earlier streets. Bebro has checked and called the whole way which indicates a draw of some kind and couga has shown strenght the whole time without raising preflop. We don't beat two opponents here very often after the spade falls and it's extremely tough to put them on something the way the hand was played. Did you have a read on couga? It's hard to put him on a bad hand, 8x is a possibility obviously.

The biggest problem I see here is that you offered WAY too high implied odds on the turn. I'd bet the pot there to make him pay for any draw. He called on the flop, so he may call a large bet on the turn with a little something, but to call with a FD, he'd have to call at a very bad price.

Given stack sizes though, I think the outcome was inevitable after the flop.

you slow played trips and got out drawn.
If I have trips or set, and the board is 2-flushed, I'm not lettin anyone have cheap cards. With 2 others in the pot, its likely someone may have that draw. You checked the flop, this can be good because it really disguises your hand, bad because it gives spade draws a free card.

After the flop raise, I'm re-raising right there.
Make em pay for the draw.

If they all check behind, and no spade comes on the turn, I think I bet pot or more, (tourney I push) to make em pay for the river. You smooth called the turn. I think couga may call anybet, but make him pay for it.

If the spade comes, tough decision, but the push here really screams flush.
tough to flop the trips and lose to a rivered flush but you slow played on a flushy baord. To me, thats a mistake.

Oasis what villian did here was bet to disguise his hand. This is a very good tactic to use if you are on a draw with 2 of your drawing cards already on the board. This manuver works very well for open end straight draws and flush draws.

My advice, when something like this happens in a hand I am involved in, is to go ahead and do the dirty...raise and raise big. Make every card they draw too dang expensive for them to draw.

Okay thanks guys. Yeah, normally I would bet if someone was check/calling on a board like that. Guess his little tactic worked because there was no way in hell that I put him on a draw. I was so happy when the other player folded because i really did think I had the best hand and was happy to get my chips in.

Similar things have happened a few times now, so I guess my lesson is no matter what betting patterns they're giving I should never slow play to that extent on a 3 to flush board.
