Great player on the tilt.

Crying

I play regularly on Party Poker site and have done for 12 months, I consider myself an average to good player and not bad at poker either. However I don’t know if I’m on the tilt, lately I just can’t seem to make the grade, every bluff gets called, every bet to find out where I’m at gets checked raised, I’m hanging in there but it seem to be getting harder. I pay a lot of Sit & Go's, I hate it but I’m getting knocked out before the money. I try not to play to passive but consider my game tight. The money is just not coming to a good home. I know no one wants to help a looser, just play against them. I put it out there because it helps me deal with the situation. Have you nice people got any advise.

I think you'll find that most people on this forum will be happy to help out when they can. It does help if you indicate what game you are playing, limit or NL and what stakes. And what is "Lately"? Last week? Last month? The whole 12 months you've been playing?

One comforting thing you'll find on this site is that no matter what bad beat or streak you are encountering you'll find someone posting here that has had worse.

I Play HL $5.50 Sit & Go’s

It has been happening for months now, I win, then loose it all and bit more, I was going strong 3 months ago but started reading a lot more, and now my game has gone, even though I think I am a better player. I seam to have a better game when I didn’t now what I was doing.

I blame: -
1. Low limit games and the loose aggressive players it attracts.
2. Confused about my own game.
3. Just not cut out to be a gambler.

I love the game and want to keep a positive outlook, any suggestions are welcome

1. Tighten up and play smart.
2. Take a break for a month or two and read a few books.
3. Good play takes alot of the *gamble* out of poker.

If I get stuck in a rutt, I usually try 1 of 2 things:

1) take a break
2) drop down in limits + change games

For number 2, a number of times I've tried the $6 turbo Limit sngs on Party. These things are hilarious. The players there honestly seem to think that because it's limit, it's impossible for them to lose all of their chips, or they can chase anything they want. On 2 separate occasions I have actually folded into the money. While this isn't necessarily the greatest way to practice, I find that when I'm in a hole, any kind of victory really boosts my confidence and I start to play better.

Yeah but sometimes the pressure to get that win will really hurt you. The worst mistake you can make is playing higher stakes after a heavy loss as you crave that big win. I've done this so many times and just end up getting smacked back down even harder. Think i've learnt my lesson now. <_<

I'm in a similar situation. Over a 15 month period I am up a good amount. But over the last 4 days all I can do is lose. I believe this is what they call variance but it really gets to my confidence. I think once you get on a downswing you want to get out of it and you end up trying too hard. If you have poker tracker studying hand histories is a good thing to do. I am also taking a few days off and am going to drop down and play a little lower limit until I get my confidence back. Anyway good luck and let us know when you get back on your game because I'm sure you will. Everybody loses in poker just hang in there and you will start winning again.

First, you are not alone. Take a look at these two threads, for example:

http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t17937/losing-confidence?highlight=#145486
http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t18490/brutal-day

Look around the forum and you'll see many, many downswing reports.

I recommend with the strongest possible emphasis that you switch to low fixed limit ring (or cash) games. To me this are the purest and most uncomplicated version of poker with the easiest calculations to make (therefore the easiest way to learn the calculations and make them second nature). Get good at this and then move on.

Good luck.
