From everyone's personal experiences, what's the poker like in colleges?
Lots of games? Few? Good players? Mostly bad? Buyins? What game? Tournament? Cash game?
I'm very curious lol
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

The group of guys I used to play with at UC Davis, by and large, were very good players. Most of the games I played with them were among the toughest I've ever played, but they were still fun. I found that my usual LAG tactics were being overrun and that I simply wasn't strong enough to beat them that way, so I had to revert to a TAG style to beat the NL games (and I only did so marginally until we expanded our base of players). We also used to a play a mixed rotational game, though, which I consistently beat, although it was still much tougher than anything I've seen online or in a casino.
It's not a hard and fast rule, but the young, college-age players as a group are usually highly aggressive, educated on the game, and tough.

Back when I was in college the poker games were good. Plenty of them and plenty of action but I always hung with people who liked those sorts of things. We even once had a poker game on the radio station at the local college...BTW this was the same college that 2004 WSOP ME winner Greg Raymer graduated from....
I imagine with the upswing on poker in this country and around the world, games would be more frequent and more players.

I got a question, obviously many college kids are strapped for cash although there are exceptions, are there a wide variety of low stake--higher stakes games going on? I suspect that there are just a lot of low stakes and then you got your big timers with high stakes, with not much in between.

I doubt there is much poker action in college, I would imagine most of the students are too busy studying.

Oh yeah, I spent my day studying the great thinkers of our time:
Sklansky, Malmuth, Miller, Lederer, Harrington...
Oh wait, that wasn't what you meant?

I said THINKERS. Not whiners.

Can only speak for my experience in Norway. Around here it is very varied games amongst students, some play nickle&dime and some are used to extremely high stakes.
I think the quality of play is generally bad even w/ quite experienced players.

well my school there's a game if you want to find one or make one, but it's almost always low stakes/ buy-ins, I mostly play weekly with friends for 5 to 10 bucks and I think that's what most do with an occasional larger game where it's tell all your friends and bring 20 bucks for a tourney
but alas we are mostly poor college students...freshmen year we played for a couple dollar buyin I guess we're moving up in the world!
