I have a question...

Starting tournament today I noticed that early on there were about 3 people at the table I was sitting at that were waiting for the last possible second to call the blinds/bets/raises. This seems like an utter waste of time to me, and it's very non-beneficial to all who are playing at that table. I could see that they were trying to force the blinds up(being the table chip leaders, by only 1500-2000) but I believe that that works against them.
The blinds go up at ALL tables and while other tables have plenty of action, the chips are moving, and these guys in the end are going to end up short stack later on in the tournament.

Now I can understand if there were short stackers holding $200 to $300 in chips and the blinds are at 75/100...but that early in the tourney seems to me to just be plain counter-productive!

What do you think???

This is MTT, right??

Because it occurs to me that in the early stage of a BIG tourney, the less you do, and the longer you take to do it, the higher you finish. I've kept track a few times, and in MTT with over 1000 players you lose about 6 players a minute. I think if you can just slow down the pace to a crawl you can get to the top 100 by just hanging in there.

Granted, you can't build your chip lead to 25X your buy-in in the first 45 minutes--and someone always seems to be able to do that. Doing that, though, is equivalent to getting hit by lightning. The idea is to survive until you get into the money. Playing off-pace accomplishes that.

I live in Miller Beach: aka Gary, Indiana. I play almost exclusively at Resorts, their 10/20 game 95% of the time.

Every now and then I host a 18-20 player freezeout. Usually a $50 buy in -- no rake/fee/drag, nothing in it for me but fun. I'll pay three places. Because most of these guys are non-casino hold'em nubes I do pot limit and structure the blinds so that the game goes 3 to 3 1/2 hours. I didn't want somebody new to hold'em and completely out of his element in a touney setting coming in and losing his chips in the first 10 minutes. It takes at least an hour to get busted out in PL with my blind structure. What I guarentee anyone is that they absolutely never had so much fun playing poker for $50 in their whole life.

If I've got your email I'll give you a heads-up for the next one, but you must be older than 18 (21 officially, but I'll make an exception for THP guys.)
