It was my first time seeing it but I did notice something. Paul ??? (I can't remember his last name even though I should know it) used several 'tactics' to get reads from his opponents such as telling his opponent what he had and looking for the reaction, etc. In almost every (if not EVERY) case he made the wrong read/call. What's up with that?

I think it has to do with the fact that Paul Phillips is a gazillionaire. He's not playing for the money but more for the rush and sometimes gets caught up in it and makes dumb moves. I personally cant stand the guy, especially when he announced that he had top pair to Mel. he's as classy as Moneymaker

Personally I see nothing wrong with him announcing he had top pair or the straight. Granted, me he made the wrong calls though.

from what i've heard, most tourny's make it against the rules to call out your hand in an attempt to get a reaction from another player..whether you're lying or not

I don't think it would really bother me, I just found it interesting that in that episode his methods were very inneffective. They probably work more than they don't, but not based on that episode.

In fact, I think that's the way these shows help me the most. When I see the big dogs layin' down the best hand, making wrong reads, not maximizing the profit of a hand, etc. it reminds me that making 'mistakes' is just part of the game and EVERY player does it. So maybe I don't beat myself up so much when I make a mistake.
