Do you think that the majority of poker blogs are true? I’m talking about the ones like David Ross’s (Playing poker for a living) or Matt Maroon (The Poker Chronicles) or any of the numerous equivalent journals and blogs and reports that detail the daily life of poker players.
This post isn’t meant to cast aspersions on anyone. I can’t attest to the truthfulness or lack thereof, of any blog. But I hope they are true. I pray they are. I have my fingers crossed that they are authentic because I read and enjoy them so immensely.
Like a book of Holy Scriptures for the pious, these heroic stories of tournament battles and ring game triumphs warm my poker soul and provide desperately needed inspiration.
But do you think we—the loyal readers and followers of these blogs--are getting our collective legs pulled? Have any blogs in the past been found to be frivolous, the blogger found to be a charlatan?
Some blogs detail truly impressive gambling exploits and toss around dollar amounts that dazzle, leaving a newbie like me panting, salivating, hyper-ventilating to emulate these Gods of the green felt.
If they’re to be believed, I think all of us should contemplate chucking our day jobs, firing up the ole internet, and diving full bore into poker. What the hell, in a few months it’s a cinch we’ll be pulling down thousands a week.
Just like our blog heroes!
Obviously, if any poker blogger were to only list continuous weeks of wins, that would be a potential tip-off that their luck lingers incomprehensibly long in only one direction. To their credit, most of the writers also mention their slumps, their baffling bad beats which add an air of authenticity, as we shed a tear and pray for a speedy resumption of their hot streak.
Several bloggers have more traditional literary ambitions, and have written or are working on book length compilations of their poker stories.
Could a book deal be an incentive for embellishment? Hmmmm!
In the end, I hate to be cynical. Blogs with success stories are what keep me chugging away to improve my game. If it were to come out that many of these bloggers are simply blowing hot air, I’d be somewhat…deflated.
But what do you think?
And if you know of some really great blogs, true or not, I’m dying to check them out… and dream.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? yep, nice read.
post links for few blogs and I'll read threw them..
However, watching high stakes poker clips, and talking with few guys around here it is totally possible that some if not all are true.
That doesn't mean we all can do it.
Being a successful poker player takes more then quitting your day job and putting all your time into it - sadly.
You know that only 10% of online player do not lose money playing.

Call me cynical but I think we can safely assume that the majority of poker players, even winning ones, will have a tendency to focus on the good side of things. I think all poker players go through hard times. Those that do it for a living probably more so than casual gamers like myself.

I haven't read the blogs you speak of, but I'm assuming they're written by experienced players. They aren't new to the game and their success was more than likely not immediate. Like every new player, they went through the learning stages, which for the most part are where you see the more negative facets. Now that they have the experience, it can be expected that their success is greater, while their losses are a lot less significant, compared to the beggining of course. In short, you caught them at the point where things are going very well, but they put a lot of time in to reach that point.

I can certainly believe some people put together false blogs, likely people who're talented writers that also desire attention and fame. It's not that difficult if the person has a creative side, possibly a writer, as they would simply set it up as a storyboard - create an intense setting, build up the characters, etc. as the tense drama flows through the writing. Posting a make-believe hand isn't very difficult.
Thus, after sitting for six hours I had made an ingenious comeback, leapfrogging more than fifteen people to end up in a one-on-one battle. I was now ahead by a mere 100 chips and I could tell that he was gunning for me, he wanted the prize and my body was one he was willing to step over to obtain his goal. I'm dealt pocket sevens, a hand that treats me well and I raise up from the small blind but instantly watch him re-raise me and toss a wink. With my heart thrusting I drop a few more chips for the call and my chest tightens moreso - but within seconds my uneasiness turns to outright glee! The flop had brought be quads, showing 77A and our eyes met. I struggled to contain my emotion, checked my hole cards to try and show weakness and he pushed on me! I insta-called, he flipped over AA and my hand held up. Unbelievable, after being short-stacked for more than half the tournament I was able to crawl back and demolish the final table, dropping one foe after another to claim the $2500 1st place prize! Until next time, may your cards be live!
^ Just wrote that real quick, put very little effort in, etc. and I've read many like that before. I'm not saying most blogs are fake but I assume a few are, but the most popular ones are likely not fabricated
