So, yes, everything in poker is situational, and altho (in a previous thread) I laid into the min raise as a useless and ineffective play... This obviously depends on knowing your opponents, position, your hand, etc. etc.
basically, if i min raise from utg... beware!

The two types of hands that I see min-raising from EP consistently are BIG Pairs (AA, KK) and middle suited connectors.
I personally think it is a terrible play. Even if you raised the normal 3xBB, with Villain having JJ in the hole, you were going to get action. If nobody had a hand at all, then the BB has odds to call with just about any two cards. If he flopped two pair with his 58o you would be kicking yourself for not raising more preflop. Just my opinion.
Other than that, nice hand!

I can see Dats point here. It is a very credible point but I agree with this play from time to time and notice I say time to time. First if you bet a standard 3-5xBB raise and do get action from JJ I highly doubt if he will push seeing an A or any over on the board. AJ I could see pushing with the flop but JJ would most likely figure he was beat and lay it down.
If you know there are some wild players or LAG players left to act and have no doubt that they will re-raise with hands in late position then I see nothing wrong with min. raising to get rid of some hands before it gets to this LAG players seat. The min. raise tells LAG that I have a hand worth raising. Lag sees the min raise as a sign of weakness and presses over the top knowing the only hands that will call will be hands that have him beat pre-flop. Good way to play a monster pre-flop hand in my opinion. You just better make sure there is a LAG there who will raise or you will be kicking your own ass when AA gets cracked by some meaningless BS hand.
