Pub Poker (live)
Final Table, $2000sb $4000bb
5 players left.
I was in the big blind.
Villain has a pile of chips $125,000 odd
I have $31,000 in chips left after posting the blind.
Dealt 4 5
Villain from a middle position makes it $10,000 to go
All fold, actions on me.
I would normally fold this hand and wait for a better position. My read on the Villain, an aggressive player who has made several similar moves with medium pocket pairs. When the villain has had a big hand its all in before the flop. Villain also uses position and the chip lead to get players out of the pot. Has folded pre flop raises to strong bets. The Villain would see me as a tight player who has not played a lot of pots, showed big slick several hands ago to take down the blinds.
My thinking is the Villains making a play for the Blinds and at best has a medium pair. I believe the table see me as a tight player who only playing big pairs or AK AQ.
If the flop comes with an A, I could represent A’s and go all in, I could flop a strait or flush draw, I know I am out of position and I will have to show strength or fold. I am thinking that it’s all in no matter what.
I call the $6000 raise.
Flop
A K 3
I go all-in
Villain calls and shows A K
I get that bad feeling
Turn A
River, I never looked.
I try and justify my play.
But I was wrong, should I still go with my gut feeling.
How could I have got it so wrong after 3 hours of solid play?

I guess I would question why you felt he would fold regardless of what the board came if he really did have the hand you put him on. A middle pair has you crushed and he can't be behind preflop to your 5 high.
Your story also has to add up enough to make him want to fold, an Ace in your spot probably doesn't call there (you would likely push since you can't afford to miss the flop) and you don't have enough back to force him out even if the board did come like you planned vs a middle pair.
I don't like calling in your spot planning on getting tricky after the flop with a stack that can't afford to be wrong.

Bad play. The push after the flop was horrid considering you put villian on his hand and still pushed.
