To Personal Logo or Not

What’s your opinion on using an image/picture/logo/avatar next to your name on the poker sights where you play? Some sights allow them, some don’t, but what’s your take on their use?

I don’t use one myself. Not sure why? Maybe I just haven’t gotten around to it or placed enough priority on it. But I also don’t put bumper stickers on my car, either. Hmmmm. Might be something a shrink would want to examine farther.

Makes me wonder though, whether most of the images on these sights, especially the apparent snap shots of human beings, are actually authentic. Are these images of the actual player or is there something more sinister behind them?

Are the genders right? The ethnicity? Is that smiling face really the player or someone else?

For instance, what advantages might there be for showing a rather dim witted, elderly gentleman with glasses with a name like Doc, or Professor, or Gramp?

Some images are there for unfathomable reasons. A picture of President Carter is not likely a genuine attempt by the player to suggest he is actually our former leader, but to convey something else.

I notice from this forum that many members use avatars here. That might be a clue to your feelings about personal images in general. I would expect that anyone utilizing an image or logo on this forum might also be the kind who would do so on their favorite poker sight.

To logo or not to logo, that’s the question. If you do, why? If you don’t, why not? And if you do, what exactly do you wish to convey? Humor, fear, contemplation, vulnerability, sensuality, craftiness, inexperience, affluence, affability, hostility, benevolence?

Or is it just an image to make it easier to quickly identify yourself when multi-tabling?

I have one loaded in bodog and stars....
but reflecting on loading them, I recommend you dont. Reason is quite simple: you dont want other players 'remembering' you. They'll often forget your name, but they'll recognize the icon.

I almost immediatley noticed players recognizing me from the icon, which is bad more often than good. imho.

from a usability perspective, i like them...i mean most sites that don't have custom icons, they just have these silly rendered humans sitting there....why not allow something that has some meaning?....I mean if it displayed "player 1, player 2" rather than their screennames...that would be lame right?...

strategically, i suppose you would want a new and aggressive looking picture Smile ....new so they dont recognize you later, aggressive so they fold to you...personally tho, i dont pay much attention to them....except i think ppl w/ pics of babies tend to play more conservatively...but i'm gonna pay way more attention to their play and position n wutnot obviously...either way i dont think it matters much

Well as u can see i use Beast

I like him since he kinda gives me in my mind a Tightish Table Immage.
since he realy is not agressiive or anything and in the comics he is one of the Most Muture Hero's alway thinking before he Leaps Smile

am i the only one in the world who is using the 'no images' skin?

From my experience, avatar images that are women (not a picture of a supermodel or something, but what could be the woman playing) tend to indicate tighter/more conservative play.

I use the same image on PokerStars and Absolute that I use here. It's just because I liked the show.

As for people remembering me, I play with the same players on Absolute all the time anyway. I doubt my avatar is aiding them that much more.

Is the show Rocco's Modern Life? And if so weren't you a little old for it? Laughing

It's "RocKo's Modern Life," tyvm. How could I possibly be too old for a great cartoon like that? I just wish they would put them on DVD, with episode commentaries from Alazraqui (Rocko), Kenny (Heffer) and Lawrence (Filburt) in character. Would be hysterical.

Ok, I completely geeked up this thread. Sorry.

On Pokerstars I've always had my Winnipeg Jets logo w/ the name of Dave Babych. Old school hockey fans know him and quite often it starts up hockey talk which I never have a problem talking about. Most people start out by asking if I'm really him... sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not. Depends on the mood that day.

I do think that avatars on poker sites tell you about the person. Usually not too much but little things such as age or hobbies.
