can a player just use the 5 community cards to make his 5 card hand? and if so, wouldn't it be a little unfair if say another player has a 10/10, while the community cards are say kkjqq

Yes, a player can just use the community cards. In the case of the TT with a board of KKJQQ, I wouldn't consider it unfair, just unfortunate. Especially since he could be beaten by A2, and would split the pot with 27. Smile

This is a good example of the curse of 3 pairs where if u don't kill a hand when the board is pairing higher than ur hand after the flop/turn it can bite u in the ass on the river!
