I don't post a lot of these, but I thought I made the right decision here.
Blinds are 300/600
I have the button and villain is to my left in the SB.
Me - ~15,000
Villain - ~ 7,000
BB ~ 6,000
I look down at Ks 7h on the button. Both of my opponents have tightened up a little, but are still playing pretty aggressive. I make it 3,000 to go. Villain thinks for a minute or so and pushes all in for ~4,000 more. BB folds.
I've played with the Villain for a long time and I know how he plays most of the time. I figure him for middle pair or an Ace, probably Ace mid. He knows I'm a TAG player and I've usually got something if I raise, but that I'm also not afraid to fold if I think I'm beat. With more than 10x the BB and the button coming to him next hand, I can't think he's making a move with Junk, but I figure that I'm most likely around a 2:1 dog.
I count out my chips and realize I'm getting about 2.5:1 on my money if I call. On top of that, he'll only have 4,000 more than me, and I'll still have about 2,000 more than the BB. So I call. This is probably the most thought I've put into a hand, both math and reading my opponent to put him on a hand and I really think I made the right move, but I'd like to see what you guys think.

I notice the blinds are 600, you made quite a big raise here imo,a 2k, or 2.4k riase does the same thing as a 3k raise but doesnt commit you so thats my first issue.
Anyway, to the hand ,you ve put in 3k and hes gone all in for 4k more , so 300 sb plus 6k once he's called + 4k raise. So 4,000 to call for a pot now containing 10,300 I think. Which is..2.5 /1 roughly.
K-7 is a really lousy hand but i read you pointed out he is likely to have Ax or small pair , maybe he could have QJ aswell? you never know. I don't like the size of the raise pre flop, since if they're coming they're coming regardless of the size of the raise pre flop probably. But once you've riased I think its a call unless you read him for extreme strength which you said you didn't.
So, what he have?

Yeah, I realized after the fact that the raise was a bit high, but still 5x the BB. 2500 might have been better. I didn't want to go lower than that, because I needed to scare off the BB too. I'll play out the rest of the hand later. I want to see if anyone else wants to reply.

i agree with ciso here ... 3k raise and even as low as a 2k raise does the same thing ... in both cases villains are pushing all-in if they re-raise, raising less gives you a better opportunity to get off this crappy hand
re-stating ... raise to 2k and fold to the re-raise ... you need KQs+, 77+,A8o+ about to be making the CALL here
