My first MTT final table

Posted Sat Sep 02, 2006 6:16 pm GMT by swiftone
So I played a $4.40, 180 entry MTT tourney on Stars today, and finished 4th. Although happy with my showing, I cant help but wonder if I played my last hand poorly. At the final table, it was down to 4 people. Myself and another guy were at around 30k in chips, and two big stacks were at around 120k each give or take.

I find myself with 7d 6d and limp in along with two others.

The flop comes 8d 9d Js

Short stack bets 5k, I reraise all in here with the straight draw, flush draw and straight flush draw, I figure I have outs and could make enough chips to contend for first. The big stack reraises all in and other shortstack calls.

Turn comes Jd

River is a brick.

Other short stack turns over Kd 2d and big stack turns over Ad10d. We all had the flush and myself and the other short stack got knocked out.

I wonder if I played the flop too aggressively going all in, knowing that if I had simply folded the other short stack would have been elimated and I would have cruised into 3rd place. Any input on this play?

Post flop I too think that most people go broke there.

Argument *could* be made regarding a limp with 67d. You never mentioned what the blinds were at but my I guess would be that they were pretty high.

Good job though, congrats on the FT.

I think this topic has been brought up before. How hard do you push the open ended straight flush draw? I have been there and I pretty much did what you did. You normally have more outs to beat the other oppenent. Did what you had to do and didnt work out. Well played in my opinion.
