Following on from your advice, i've managed to turn from being a loser to holding my own, but got stung here... was it unlucky ?

The only thing I could think of that might get you off that hand was the raise on the turn. You have to start thinking villian has a boat when you know you have a near nut flush and get raised. Either villian had a higher flush here or a full house with the pair on the board.

I really see no way your getting away from this hand unless you had put villian on the higher flush or the boat that he had on the turn. All in all the only thing I can see is how you might have gotten out cheaper..but I doubt I would have folded on the river.
