Didn't you just take a big hit off Jamie Gold?

I don't know what your problem is?

Cash games > SnGs

Big MTT wins are the best though.

It doesn't matter to me how I win my money. I do get more personal satisfaction from winning a MTT or a SNG thou.

I just go by how I'm playing... Last month I played 0 ring games.. 150 SnG's and 2 MTT's. Placed in 77 SnG's and won both MTT's. This month I started off 0-10 on SnG's and decided to play some 1/2 NL and have been doing well.SO ill stick with that untill I start playing porrly or my luck goes horrible.
Mix it up or you will get board and wont play like you can.

Ring games, I don't like tournaments because shortstacked NL bores the living daylight out of me and FL tourneys are boring. I play both full ring and 6-max NL&FL pending on the mood.

I'm now in place that I will be happy with any money coming in Razz

Though I have to say I find MTT very exciting - I rarely find the time to sit 4 hours + playing poker..

Live 9 handed limit games at the card room. Mostly 6/12 with some 4/8 and 8/16 mixed in. Live limit tourneys have also been profitable for me.

Put the on-line stuff on hold a couple months ago and focused strictly on limit poker. This fixed a few problems in my game. Switching back and forth between limit and no-limit screwed me up.

I'll probably jump back into the pool here this winter. (Long here in Minnesota) and focus on big medium-buy-in ($20-$40) multi tournaments. See how it goes....

I just made a great discover, on the way I play, and have adapted to a new strategy (if you could call it that).

I joined a new poker room recently.
I used to play a lot of S&G`s and MTT, but never really spent much time on ring games.

For signing up at this new room, I got a bonus gift if I played 250 raked hands.

I thought fair enough, deposited the minimu $50, and thought I will play really tight and if I break even, I still get my free poker table.

After playing for the 250 hands I had got my bankroll to $300, playing $50 tables.

Till now I had not really had the confidence to play on bigger tables.
I ground it out and reached $1000 after a few weeks.

I decided to try moving up a level the £100 NL tables, only to find the standard of play was no better than at the $50 tables.

I always used to buy-in with the table max limit, thinking if I get the nuts, I can double up more money. Now I tried something different.

The theory I came up with is this........
I play really tight, so normally win when I make the move.
People tend to read you on the size of your stack and how much damage they can do to you.
I decided, if I am going to stake $100 in a session, I now join a $300 session with only $100.
Some of the bigger stacks at the table, do not regard my raises as threatening, so many call my bets when I make a move.
The conclusion as I see it is that to me what is good profit when I double up, is to them not really significant damage.
I dont get greedy, when I have doubled up, I leave.

It seems to be working at the moment, does anyone else have think this is a good or bad idea?

At a friendly home game I'd agree with you but online to make money nothing wrong with it in my eyes.

Personally I do not think this strategy is a good one.

Buying in for the max amount of money is most advantageous for the obvious reasons. Although you've been having sucsess thus far, I find it very hard to say that it will continue. Your strategy is quite easily exploited and although I don't play stakes that high, people at my lower stakes seem to be trying the same thing. When a small stack buys into the table, they obviously want to double up or win a large amount while risking the least amount possible. When you start to play a lot more agressively against these players, I find that they blow up and lose their small stack by usually playing scared and nitty.

Others just get in the first 50-50 all in PF race they can find.
