Hi all! I have two "nuts" calculators and both give the same result. I'm baffled. The community cards are: '8H', '7H', 'JH', '9H', 'QH'! The calculators both say the nuts for these cards is "Queen high straight flush"! I would have thought it was king high straight flush. What am I not understanding?

HMMM the 10 of hearts?
Unless of course you have K 10
Or unless your nuts calculators do not include the K , I know mine dont.

You can't have a striaght flush with those board cards without the 10 . So even if someone has the K and you have the 10 you win because your hand makes the straight flush and not just a K high flush.

And if you have K T ?
I think UAU created those calculators...
If you have a link to the site/software, I'm sure someone will check it out and corroborate.

But still, the nuts is the nuts and if you have the K straight flush, thats the nuts, correct? I mean i see your point but if you are trying to calculate the best possible hand you could hold, isnt it the K high straigh flush?

Yeah but the nuts is base on the community cards alone; what's in someones hand is irrelevant to the nuts.

Actually I wrote the calculators. Anyway I've found the error now, it was round off at the 15th decimal place. Thanks for the input anyway.

I don't think that's your problem...

...that is.

EXACTLY
The nuts is based on your cards and the community cards, no one else at your table can beat you. For example you have 6 7 and your opponent has A 2
The flop comes out 3 4 5
You have the nuts and no one else can beat you at this point in time.
If the turn comes A
You still have the nuts.
If a K you have the nuts. No matter what anyone else at the table has, no one else can beat you.
You may want to take another look at your program, because you are calculating the nuts incorrectly by just looking at the community cards. If you need further help/assistance on this idea let us know.

The rank of the hand doesn't change based on who is holding the cards; the nuts is the nuts. I'm sure you are confusing the nuts with the highest ranking hand in play.

Frankly, I find this whole argument ridiculous.
You're all nuts.

Only one person can hold the 10 . Thats why its saying the q high straight flush is the nuts. Cause if you have it, NOBODY can have the king high straight flush. If you have EITHER the king high or queen high straight flush, you have the NUTS.
The nuts just mean you have a hand that nobody else can beat, both hands classify as such.
Its like when you have AK in your hand and the community cards are AAK27. AK is the nuts even though if you DID have AA, it would be a better hand.
