First off, this should be in "Non-Holdem Poker Chat."

In Omaha, you must use two cards from your hand, no more no less, and three from the board, no more and no less.

So, in short, yeah you're missing something.

IN OMAHA, YOU MUST USE EXACTLY 2 CARDS FROM YOUR HAND AND EXACTLY 3 CARDS FROM THE BOARD.

Edited because I am a jerk.

Ok. I do apologize as that was really harsh, but the only reason you are up that much is pure luck if you dont know the most important rule of the game. You are actually lucky you posted this on here because you were about to lose every penny.

I just figured that if you didn't really know how to play a game, why not try it for play money first?

Thanks for the apology...I admit I am pretty embarassed because I feel like I am a pretty decent NL player, and now I feel like a rookie Embarassed

I just went for the gold with my last $12 on absolute, kept winning, and never looked back from there. As I just lost this hand I looked up the rules, but I just assumed it was exactly like holdem when it came to the rules...

I wish I could delete this post and I wish I could delete the email i sent to absolute support team saying "URGENT ..." LOL

That is a nice streak you are on that is for sure. Maybe not knowing that rule helped you in certain hands by getting opponents to fold? Who knows.

One of the biggest problems I had when I started out with Omaha (ages ago) was if the board had 2 pairs showing and I only had one of those cards. I couldnt figure out why I didnt have a boat. Example:
Board: A A K K Q

My hand (that I busted on) just contained 1 Ace and my buddy beat me with KQ. They desribed that my hand was just 3 Aces with a King kicker while he had Kings full of Queens. Luckily that was only for $5 and I got to go to the bars after that!

Yeah, this is actually the first time I have came across this situation.

All I can say is this payback for all the holdem bitches that donked out on me. Ever hear of Karma? Laughing

I bet instead of AP hitting "Reply" in their mail client, they hit "Forward" and sent it to everyone they know. Mackkie will soon be known by the entire poker community...

We will be so proud Laughing

Mackie as you already know your not the first to make this mistake and you sure won't be the last.

As the "Jerk" said...AP might get a laugh out of it but I bet this is something they have seen many many times. Omaha is a darn fun poker variation and challenging. Most of the time pairs and 2 pairs mean nothing. Straights are often ran over by flushes. Sets are good but boats are great. Quads happen and so do Royals. Learn the game more and I bet you will find it pretty fun.

Yeah, sorry for calling u a jerk, I was just real fired up. I really think I am going to make the switch to mostly PL omaha cash games and do NL holdem tourneys, although AP's tourneys suck.

When I said to the kid that I thought I beat him he actually told me "Yeah I found out about that rule after losing a huge pot too". After flopping the set I prob woulda called down anyway, but so far there is a ton of action but there is still def. skill involved. I hope to continue on my winning ways with it.

EDIT: by the way I got a good laugh when I went to edit me calling you a jerk and it already says "edited because I am a jerk" lol.

This is funny, because when I first started dealing omaha in home games in the mid-80's I would patiently explain this rule...

about 15 times each night. Now these people were not idiots, although rocket scientists and brain surgeons, as a group, were probably under-represented. It got SO bad that they insisted I change the name of the game to "Two and only Two," and for 15 years that's what we called it.

That made the number of times/evening that the rule was forgotten in the heat of battle drop in half. What it did, mostly, was shorten the argument/explanation at the showdown. Everyone just looked at the current moron and said:

"Two and only two."

Now, being a math major, I didn't like the name at all. In mathematics, we would more correctly say "exactly two," but they couldn't wrap their heads around that either.

I played a lot of omaha and made some easy money from people just moving over from Hold'em - just to lose it later to people who actually know omaha.

I still play it a little, and still get confuse with some hands :
if I have AAJT and the flop is AJx - it might take me a street or two to realize that I don't have a boat...
