Was this the right play? I started the final table last in chips. got up to about 4th place with 6 left(18 MTT) when this happened

This is fine, you raised in half your stack with a strong hand and ended up in a coinflip (where you'll usually be when you get called here).
Do like the pros and try not to focus on results so much as the right play. In this case you were a favorite when the money went into the pot, so its fine.
I'm guessing when you say 18 MTT you mean 18 players in the tournament, so you still need to accumulate a lot more chips to finish in the money (top 4 im guessing?).
BTW if I am right, this is actually a SnG (sit-n-go). MTT refers to a tournament with multiple tables that begins at a pre-arranged time. SnG refers to a tournament that when a certain number of seats are filled, will start.

I did not know that, but that makes sense. Well it was close but I learned something today, even if it wasn't important to know.
BTW, yes you made the right call there, you had too much invested to fold and you were ahead. The only thing I might have done differently is just push since you are putting nearly 50% of your stack in and are forced to put the rest in regardless of what comes.

Yea it was a 18 person SnG, sorry bout that and top 4 did get paid.
