How many hands must you play to limit variance and expect to be EV+ in most nlhe cash games? It seems no matter how many hands i play i just cant be successful in these micro limit cash games. For example, i know tonight was an ultra short session (maybe 1.5 hours, 400 hands), but i hit a total of 2 sets (neither won), 2 trips (neither got paid off), 1 straight (no payoff), and zero flushes (yes a big fat ZERO). Is 400 hands too few to expect to have a realistic chance at having a winning session? In the games i played in, i was down about 1 buy-in overall.

In 400 hands, anything can happen, to anyone. Yesterday I won 4 buy ins in 400 hands, the day before I lost almost 2.
Someone may have to correct me on this, but from what I can remember it takes about 10k hands to at least give an idea of whether you're winning or not and many more to give a proper win rate (bb/100 hands, $/h, etc.)
It may vary according to what limits you play (at lower limits your potential edge is much better), and if its full ring or short handed (short handed increases variance).
Keep at it, post a few hands, read some books and keep your cool. GL
