Would like some opinions. I currently 4 table $1/$2 or 3 table $1/$2 if the poker sit's software gets funky and freaky when you try 4 aka PokerRoom, but that's another topic altogether.
I am going with a 500bb bankroll and will drop a level if that br falls to 400bb.
My question is, should I add a $2/$4 table and play 3 $1/$2's and 1 $2/$4 and if so at what bankroll amount. What bankroll amount would be reasonable to have 2 $1/$2 tables and 2 $2/$4 tables going? Or should I simply wait until I have 500 big bets of $2/$4 aka $2k and then 4 table the $2/$4 game?
All advice appreciated.

I try to play at the same limit at both tables (I usually max at 2 tables) to avoid mistakes in betting judgement, but since you're playing limit you could try it.

I agree. Definitely stick to playing the same limit on all tables.. plus, your bankroll should only be able to handle one limit. The number varies, but 25 buy ins is a good amount to have, so if you've got $500, buy in for $20 at once. That way, you can handle the swings.

um, theres no more variance playing 4 tables at once, then there is playing 1 table for 4x as long. Stick with the 300BB idea so you want 1.2k before playing 2/4. Obviously at 1k, you can prolly get away with it if you want though.

Technically there is no more variance, but if you are prone to tilt or just playing worse when u are losing, playing multiple tables will certainly aggravate your downswings.

Your bankroll requirement based on the Kelly Criterion is:
BR > SD^2/EV
Note that SD^2 (varience) and WR are both directly proportional to number of hands played. So the bankroll requirement for 4 tables would be:
BR > 4*(SD^2)/4*EV
This simplifies to:
BR > SD^2/EV
This is another way of saying what Jeff said which is the bankroll requirements for 4-tabling 2/4 are no greater than the requirements for 1 tabling. The percentage of your bankroll you have in play is not relevant.
The problem is this assumes your EV will be the same, chances are when you add more tables your EV will drop. Since EV is in the denominator the minimum BR will increase when EV decreases. So you need a little more to play more multiple tables, but not much more (playing 2 tables might require 1.2x the bankroll of one table).
If you're moving up I would recommend just playing 1 table of 2/4 and observing it closely for 1k hands, just so you get comfortable before you add more tables. This will cost you a little in the short term, but will make the transition easier.
