Online indicators

O.K. i admit it. I've been playing for about 18 months online and 4 months ago I joined a poker site which gave me free access to a poker indicator.

After about a month of using it I found I was actually losing money. It just gave you the straight facts. There were no considerations for bluffing etc.

I soon knocked it on the head and feel a bit of an idiot for thinking this could help.

Just wonder if any one had similar experiences. BTW since this everything seems to have clicked for me and I'm caning it for the levels I am playing at.

Just wanted to send out a message to people thinking these will help them.

So you quit using it because it told you that you were losing?

I don't use them, but I'm assuming they do help if you actually pay attention to what its telling you instead of getting upset cause you found out you're a losing player.

Sorry, don't think I was clear enough.
It was more like an odds calculator and had opp's stats regarding hands played etc.
I found I was focusing on this data too much and getting carried away on the info not bluffing etc.

I'm not saying that you shouldnt take this in as it is very important but I was I found I wasnt concentrating enough on the other aspects.

Ah, I see.

Well, its still just a tool, and if it doesnt work for you, then stop using it.

I've personally never used one, so I'm not going to comment on its effectiveness.

I use different programs for tracking myself and others, and a seperate odds calculator.

I find the tracking program excellent for keeping profit trends, but the built in odds calculator was not too good. Thats why I run a seperate odds calculator.

I only use the odds calculator for reference, as I learning the odds for all the hands I play by using this when i first started.

The advantage of an easy to read calculator, is that you can concentrate more on the players, than wasting time trying to count up outs and work out odds.
A good odds calculator not only accounts for the cards your holding, but also adjusts for hands that people are likely to be still in the pot with, at all stages of the hand.
Inferior ones just give you the straight up 52 card odds, which rarely work out to true play.

The advantage of the opponent tracker is you get a general trend of there play, but you need to incorporate your own judgement for bluffing.

As my game improves I find I am using these tools less, but they help build my standard of play, whilst I was still learning..........

Well......we are all still learning all the time........but these definitely gave me a kick start.

The HUD is usually only one part of these softwares. I like to use a HUD and I think it's a great way to get a better read on your opponents, especially when you're multitabling.

What about analyzing your game? Check how much you're making with straight draws from different positions, how is middle pair top kicker working for you, can you really play 78s profitable from MP1, etc.

I use Poker Office by the way, and you?

Yeah, I use pokeroffice also.

I think its one of the best tools I have come across.

PO is good, but you have to watch that odds calculator--it really just gives you the chances of improving your hand. That's deceptive. If you are on a flush draw, or a straight flus draw, the odds of making high pair on not particularly important unless you really feel high pair will take it down.

What I really like about PO is that it's telling you some pretty good info after about 30 hands on how tight your opponents are, and how often they'll fold to that river bet.

Do I win? Nope.

But Saturday morning, after spending all 17 bucks in my account playing NL to "tune up" for a live game, I went out that afternoon and won $450. That's a net of $437. I think it's a valuable tool.

I agree completely.

Thats why I also run texas calculatem, Sit&GoShark, depending on which site I am using.

Obviously SnG shark only works on sit and goes, which is a shame.
