Yesterday I finshed 23rd out of 332 players in a live tournament, not my personal best, but close. I had finished 3rd out of 140 players once. The top 24 cashed, but I was poised to make a run to go much deeper. I had been hanging around with 34K for a coupld of levels, not really catching much, just bluffing to steal some blinds here and there, I had been playing really well, I played a couple of dumb hands early, but other than that I never really put myself in jeopardy.
Blinds were just raised to 5k-10k, so I knew I had to make a move soon. The guy under the gun raises to 30k, I look down at AA and go all in with my 34k. Everybody else folds, and he turns over a KQ off. He gets a K on the flop and a Q on the turn, river is a blank, and I'm out in 23rd place.
If my AA would have held up that would have put me at 83K and in good posisiton to make the final table or possible deaper. What a frustrating way to go out.

Terribly annyoing to go out on a bad beat like that, at least you made the money :D
I placed second in a 461 people tournament yesterday, leading the final table all the way but didnt catch cards and pushed at the wrong place in the heads up..
Add also a 65th place in a freeroll with well over 4000 entries..So a good day for MTTīs.
My only MTT win is more than a year old now so I hope for a new one soon

My best finish was 2nd in a 1700 man field... I've yet to win a MTT tho. :/
And no offence, but at 5k-10k blinds how does having 83k set you up to get to the final table?

Getting bad beat deep into a trouney is the most frustrating thing about tournament play - Especially if you bubble or don't make much more than your buy in. I often am sitting there saying "I just wasted 3 hours for that crap to happen???"

Well, That would have made me the chip leader at my table, and the average chip count was just a little over 40k at that point, and people were dropping like flies.

still 8 times the big blind is still not a very good stack. When you begin getting deep into tourneys, people start doubling up like crazy and stacks begin to get huge. your "big" stack can become small rather quickly that deep into the tourney, one double up by a player not in the blinds that has a 35k stack easily is ahead of you now. as the blinds are 5k-10k puts him at 85k before adding in whatever the antes were. maybe you just had a pretty weak table. you should start looking at what the overall tourney leaders are, not just your table.

I find it strange that a tournament with a little over 300 players are on 5-10K blinds with more than 20 left. The blind structure must be pretty steep in this case compared to what I am used to.
The times I have reach the final table the blinds then, With 10 left are usually something like 2-4K and average stack around 50k.
With 5-10K blinds and leading the table at 85K chips, it would mean all inns in almost every hand and thats very different from what I am used to at a late stage of a tournament.

My best was 37th in a 10,000 person freeroll.
Then like 67th in another, although i do realize that within the 1st hour of those, 1/2 the field is gone.
