To preface this, I just saw the guy go all in UTG with A5o and beat 99 on the river.
With this being said, was this a horrible play on my part?

Yep....If you re raised on the flop or pre flop I could give you credit for agression and trying to win.. but the way you played this is simply yes you played that like a donk lol.

You have hero confused with villain.

With it being 6-handed and his stack sitting at ~940(?) with blinds at 50/100, the push with A5 may not be that bad. It should have little effect if any on your decision in this hand.
Push on the turn is a little strange, because I can't think of many hands that call the flop and would fold the turn to be honest....maybe T9h?

Apologies I've read the hand history completely wrong. Don't know if its a donk play on the turn, but I think It's ill advised, I mean the spade has came, and with his stack I doubt hes folding a King. I honestly can't think of a hand he check-calls with on the flop and then folds on turn with his stack.... But If you felt you could get him off the hand, felt he was weak...then no It was not a donk play.

I might fold a naked 8 here, fearing I was already behind or if I was ahead, not by much because of the flush draw. He might also (although improbably) call with something like 66, hoping to check it down...but thats probably not in his range.
So its a risky move....I like it much more when the J or A is a spade....but I tend to agree with Sean, this board is conducive to him calling that bet on the turn after he calls the flop.
