Great little post there... Nolan Dalla leaving is kind of scary... his speculations are frightening as well.

You know though... I once read somewhere (I think it was the Poker Essays Volume II by Malmuth and Sklansky) that no limit poker would never return. I also read that online poker would destroy the cardrooms.... completely adverse affect occurred.

Hey, maybe on that line of thinking maybe online gambling could be deemed okay, if some company were to subject itself to taxation of some sort. I know Station Casinos distributes these cd's... this allows you to make sports bets online through their casino.... you don't have to drive to the casino. Maybe, a company will do this thing inside the US... after all, I thought it was because of the "taxation" thing that really drove them to stop this.

Just my thoughts....

An Australian thought.
America the land of free, I know Bush has to sign off on the Bill and I presume this is a pot committed call. The problem appears to be that Governments procrastinated in approving this type of gambling, because of politics. The sites have been set up in off-shore tax havens and cannot be taxed by the governments whose people are using these sites. Australia will be next. The only thing I have to add is, this what I call a bad beat.

All I can say is, America, is be careful whom you vote for. I know many on-line poker players who never vote and now they are pissed off.

In the land where we are suppose to be free, I think it should be a basic right for me to use my own money, my own way, in my own home as long as don't hurt anyone.

Do you know who is exempt from this law? Horse race tracks. Do you know why? They have more political muscle in Washington than you could possibly believe.

This is only the start people. One by one are rights as free citizens are being taking away. This goes way beyond playing on-line poker. This is another violation of your freedom.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was rammed through Congress by the Republican leadership in the final minutes before the election period recess. According to Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.), no one on the Senate-House Conference Committee had even seen the final language of the bill. The Act is title VIII of a completely unrelated bill, the Safe Port Act, HR 4954, dealing with port security.

Now that’s BS!

In case you were wondering who still accepts US players, we've made a rough list of poker networks.
You can view it here.

I am surprised how many sites still accomodate US players.
I even found 5 which still do rakeback accounts.

How come some sites still allow US players, while most have stopped.
Does it depend on where the site is registered?

Its all about how cautious each site wants to be legally...in particular publicly traded sites are more vulnerable because most countries legally require publicly traded companies to be legal in all countries that they operate...otherwise, and this may not be correct, their shareholders could be held liable in the country in question...I'm not the expert, but thats my understanding

The law on the legality of online poker has not changed. If it was legal before, then it is still legal now.

What the recent law did was to restrict banks from moving money to or from accounts.

The current US law (some states have banned online gambling-but no Federal law) is silent on whether internet gambling is gambling in the US or in the country of the site.

Exactly. Only 10 or 11 states have written legislation expressly making it illegal to gamble online.

What states are those?

And if you want to get money from your bankroll, you have to do it through paypal or something?
