...literally! They're taking the same WEAK stance as PP and 888 (and whatever few others out there are doing the same).
As for me, if something pans out that changes legislation and these sites decide to open up poker to US players again, I'll NOT be giving them my business. Any company that bails on US players now is, as far as I'm concerned, on my boycot list for anytime in the future if things change and they open up again. I would encourage ALL american players to do the same. Stick with the guys who stuck with you durring this mess. They're the ones who deserve your business.
At any rate, here's the email so it can be added to the list of others ppl are collecting:
| Quote: | Dear John,
As a US-based online poker player, you may be aware that the Safe Ports Act passed by Congress on Friday 29 September contained certain provisions relating to internet gaming.
These provisions make the transfer of funds in connection with internet gaming illegal under US law, and will compel US-based financial institutions to block all gaming transactions.
This legislation is expected to be signed by President Bush within the next two weeks, and will become law thereafter.
Given this development, we are not in a position to lift our current block on real money gaming for US residents until further notice. While you will be more than welcome to sit at our play money tables, we will also be withdrawing access to freerolls that offer real money prizes.
Naturally we are terribly disappointed by these developments and share your frustration, but we hope that you understand our decision. It also goes without saying that we will continue to monitor the situation and sincerely hope to be able to offer real money gaming to American customers at some point in the future.
To find out more about the impact the Safe Ports Act may have, and to see how you can have your say, please visit the website of The Poker Player's Alliance.
Yours sincerely,
Malcolm Graham

That does suck, but I can't go with the "ban them" idea. Bottom line, I play to make money, so if sites open back up 2 years from now and that is where the fish are, I will go.

The sites are just trying to cover themselves and avoid any legal ramifications. Your anger is misplaced IMO. Be mad at the US for passing this law, not at the Poker sites for doing what any sane business would do.

I think it would be foolish to believe the voiced intent of most of the rooms that claim they're staying... We see players cashing out quickly from the rooms that announced they'll abbandon the Us market. Clearly something they dont want to see this soon.
Imagine you ran the poker room. The worlds asking what your inentions are of the legislation that hasnt been signed yet... which could take up to 2 weeks to be signed. Do you admit you'll leave the market, or do you hold off with answers suggesting you intend to stay as long as possible? 2 more weeks in the rich US market....
This is why I was so surprised to hear of pacific and partys announcements, and for those that followed... there's so much money involved you'ld want to hang in there till the last possible moment.
Those that have announced they'll depart from the US market, even though not in effect yet, are seeing a massive number of cashouts just from suggesting it.

that's my point, and the souce of my wellplaced frustration (anger is a bit strong since i don't have any money or play at any of the cut-and-run poker sites).
currently there's NO legal ramifications. even if once the policies are in place to "enforce" the ban, the folks who would be in a bind would be those at places like neteller or firepay (and that's a strech since i can transfer money there for all kinds of purposes other than gaming). the law doesn't make playing poker illegal. it makes the transfer of funds for gaming illegal. since the institutions in question aren't governed by US law, they would have no obligation to police who is and isn't transfering funds. at worst, based on my current understanding of things, we as americans might not be able to transfer $$ to our netellr or firepay (or whatever) accounts once the law is put into practice. other than that i'm not sure what can possibly be done. and that's just a worst case... like i said, there's a TON of valid reasons for me to move $$ to a neteller account.
so... those poker sites to bail on us now, in my opinion, aren't deserving of our return business should they, at some point, come to their senses and open their doors once again.
this is, of course, jmho.

You just got the PKR letter OR? They sent me one two weeks ago saying they were shutting down to US players. I never tried them because I never heard of the company that backed them.

well... a month or so ago i got an initial letter saying they weren't opening their money games to us players until they found out about this legislation this month. at that time, since they were just moving from beta to opening their real $$ games, it wasn't that they were abandoning the US cohort, simply that while they were launching real $$ for non-us players, they were going to hold off for US players until they found out if this piece of garbage legislation was going to pass.
funny thing is, as i mentioned before, and as many many others are now finding out, this legislation doesn't really affect anything anyway. yet they then decide to cut-and-run and we got the most recent letter saying that they're for sure not going to offer real money play to us players.
i hope they go broke.

They will. The online poker sites need US players too. The more players the more they make. Those who don't support US players are asking for lost profits and possibly worse.
I think all US players should remember these sites and if they come crawling to us looking for us to redeposit, we should give them the big FU and go with those sites that are sticking by US players.
