I'll post a hand history to illustrate this, but when he did it I knew he had a small or med pair 2's-8's because I've seen this move too many times. What I don't understand is why do they do it?
I wasn't involved in this hand so no secret patting myself on the back post.

Always the same pattern, calls an early raise gets reraised behind them, EP smooth calls and MP goes nuts and pushes only to get called by either EP or LP and almost never do they hold anything better than 8's or 9's.

I'm also not crazy about this move, but would you have made the call with ATo knowing you are on a loosing race?
They are only a real dog to a higher pair and they are leading the race against any other two cards.

I think thats the point.... They're trying to get heads up with a coin flip situation with some dead money in the pot....
Only problem is when you're up against QQ KK or AA.

I see this kind of play in short handed and full handed micro NL games and i find that i cant beat these guys because i can only play great deals.
See my other post :/

I won't go into details about the play itself, or this specific case, but it's important to remember that the value of a hand can change very drastically depending on how the current street plays out, and when that happens, what you should be trying to make happen can change drastically as well.
