Ok, I'll admit that this was somewhat tongue in cheek when I started typing it but as I got going it started sounding more plausible.
Oh what the heck, maybe I’ll dip my toe into the conspiracy theory pool for a second here. Are you ready? Here it is.
The main reason the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed is because of the Brick and Mortar Casinos. Here’s my reasons.
1. Apparently the person in Washington State primarily responsible for introducing legislation to make online gambling illegal there has been supported or received money from the Indian Casinos. Who stands to gain if people in Washington State cannot gamble online? The Casinos.
Hmmmm…
2. On the national level we have Bill Frist, the man responsible for getting the Act tacked on to the ports bill, and he has reportedly received contributions from Harrah’s entertainment. Again, brick and mortar casinos. Who stands to gain if people in the entire nation cannot gamble online? The Casinos.
Double Hmmmmm…
3. Harrah’s has apparently announced that they will not accept third party WSOP entries. At first glance this appears to be a stupid business decision but wait here comes the best part of my conspiracy theory.
When will Harrah’s announce “special” satellites to be held across the nation to provide an alternate cheap qualification method all those poor internet players that now have no way to enter the WSOP cheaply? And who will make TONS of money running these satellites? Harrahs, that’s who.

There is likely some truth to all of that.
I've even heard Harrah's will somehow be allowed to launch their own online poker sites right here in the USA.
I have a Harrah's Casino here in STL so it's no big deal for me to play a WSOP qualifier.

Harrah's has been running WSOP satellites in all their casinos ever since they bought Binion's.
The one thing that may have made the B&M places unhappy isn't online poker, it's the fact that all these sites started adding casino games to the mix. With that being said, I still believe that online gaming is taking very little traffic away from casinos. Personally, if I want to play live poker, I will make the trip regardless of the availability of online play. Most importantly, a lack of online poker will not inspire me to drive to Atlantic City any more frequently.
I have a pretty good idea that the major gaming companies already know this too. They have a bigger market research budget than me.

Wow! What a great addition to the conspiracy theory. I can see it now. Bill Frist attaches another act to some bill that gives Harrah's exclusive rights to running online casinos in the US.

Several of the large casino companies have expressed interest in opening online poker and gaming sites. The bit thing that stopped them...the US Government yet again.

 Another crooked politician?...should we all be shocked? I guess we all see the cheap price Frist sold out for. And just look at the rewards Harrahs reaps....lol...that has to be +EV for them. Looks like they pushed the flop and won big.

We can't fix any problem putting Dems in office either. The best thing to do is either vote me in for president. I have the ideas to turn this country around and make it a super power once again. This time we won't even have to leave our borders to do it. I can also turn the economy around in less then a year. Do away with many of the taxes you pay now. Also planned is a national healthcare plan that will do away with the high costs of medical care while still maintaining the best possible health care with competent doctors. I have many many more ideas to help fix the wrongs with this country and make it right again, not just for me but for the country as a whole. We make congress and all politicians work harder by setting salary caps of sorts. So in 2008...just write me in. A vote for me is a vote for freedom, democracy and yourself.... :D ...( I'm UrAteUp and I approve this message....paid for by no one).
If you don't like that idea then oust our current government, throw all the babstards to the sharks, and lets start fresh with average, self thinking, half way honest people.

If you stop to think about it, what kind of person wants to be a politician anyhow? Is it your average Joe working 5 days a week? Hell no! For the most part a person seeking public office is doing so because, on a basic instincts level, they have an intense desire to be in the public spotlight. What better way to be famous than to be elected to public office? Well, maybe as an actor/singer, but you actually have to have some talent to do that.
Who of us doesn't have some sort of skeleton in their closet? Why should I become a politician and have the media pull apart my life's history one day at a time and then publish it for all the world to see? Only someone who desires attention, that's who.
So, to get right down to it, politicians are really nothing more than egomaniacs that WE have installed in office because we are too idealistic or trusting to realize that the people we elect to office aren't there with our best interests at heart.
