I think Stu Ungar. He won the nl event wsop 3 times.

Ungar is the most aggressive player ive ever seen.

Posted Sun Apr 25, 2004 1:30 pm GMT by alphakenny1
yea probably stu ungar. his insanely agressive style combined with his flawless reading skills probably made him the best no limit player ever. here's a great example. i heard one time that ungar and Mansour Matloubi (1990 world series of poker champion) were playing a $50,000 buy in heads up match. the cards were dealt. matloubi raises and ungar calls. flop comes out 3,7,X. ungar checks, matloubi raises to about $3000. ungar calls. turn, comes X. ungar checks matloubi raises $10000. ungar calls. river comes out X. ungar checks, matloubi sensing weakness in ungar goes all in with the rest of his $35000. ungar ponders and says to matloubi "you got 4,5 / 5,6? cause im going to call you with this." ungar flips over 10,9 and long behold matloubi had the 4,5. that my friend is no limit texas hold em.

Brunson gets a nod from me. I don't know if I'd put him ahead of Stuey, but you've got to respect the balls it takes to win back to back WSOP and then tell everybody how you did it. Maybe not the smartest move, but ballsy none the less.

Ungar hands down. He is an absolute genious with all forms of cards. He won the WSOP three times and texas holdem isnt even his best game. He was a world champion gin rummy player and set a record that still stands today. He won the championship without even losing a hand. He was also not allowed to play blackjack in any casino in Vegas after he took them for $160k one night. Such a shame he had so many demons.

I agree. Stu was the best.

His skills at general living needed some work, but at NL hold'em... wow.

well the only reason why johnny chan is more known that stu is because of chan's appearance in rounders.

Question I don't follow Confused
does that mean Matt Damon is better than stuey also?
or was that sarcasm?

Don't know who is the best, that's a real tuff argument.

I think Howard Lederer would be a hard guy to go one on one with at a final table. He's quiet, very calculating, and looks like he could burn a whole threw you with his stare. You may lose to Chan or Brunson, but I think it would be at least a little more fun.

On the flip side,
Evelyn Ng is the one I would most like to go heads up with.

Right now there is no "best" the best player could be sitting at a home game somehwere in Iowa. But the best nl pl;ayer that is known. There is no best.there is about 20 top player who are the best.Like Chan,Brunson,Hansen, leaderer,Hellmuth,Ungar,S Neguy(sp), M Neguy.Ivey,Negranew(sp),Vehedi,Seidel,Moss,Slim, etc etc.

There is no best

Or is there Laughing

I gotta give a nod to Gus Hansen.

That guy has instincts like I've never seen. Maybe I'm just watching him on his good nights, but man, he just seems to know when he's beat most of the time.

Actually it's Virginia, J/K.

Unger would be my #1. He knew how to play all aspects of the game. Not just odds. Not just reading people. Not just his and his opponents chip count. Not just his cards. Not just mind games. He did it all.

Analytically, H.L.

Fun to play with, Chan, Men and Fara.

I'd love to beat, Ivey.

Who should get beat, Dutch Boyd.

I'm going to give T.J. Cloutier the "Dan Marino Award" for no limit players. Great player who just couldn't get that big bracelet

I can I forget Scotty Nguyen and Dan Harrington too. They would be fun to play against.
