Why do some things feel better than others? |

I've been playing 400nl lately... the swings are ginormous, obviously... losing hundreds or thousands of dollars one morning, winning it back the next day, etc... anyways...
If I'm able to play those stakes without feeling a thing in terms of emotions, why do MTTs feel so freakin' sweet?
I got bored of my grinding today and decided to mix it up with some mtts. I spent about 80 bucks in entry fees for a bunch of small tourneys on Stars, just for fun, and invited some of the IRC gang along. I made a few bucks in one of the nightly rebuys, and then spent a few hours mixing it up hardcore in the 20+2 horse event.
It has been a while since I've had a final table ... (i don't play mtt very often)....
Dear pavelzzz,
You finished the tournament in 4th place.
A $409.60 award has been credited to your Real Money account.
Suuuuuuhhhhweeeet.
I think I made over a grand today playing my usual cash games, but this is so much more fun to get, for some reason. Anyone get the same strange counter-intuitive feeling sometimes?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

I thinks it's those unexpected wins that feel so much better. It's like Icing on your icing.

I definitely agree with this, and it's the same with things other than poker.

Yeah, I don't play MTT to often either. I played a $3+.50 last night on RV and trippled up early with AA. Then I donked off a huge chunk a half hour later with top two pair when my instincts said the other guy had a set, and I called anyway and went out two hands later when my AQ lost to J9s. But it was a hell of a rush to triple with the AA. :D

I think it is the "winning" aspect of it. There is a beginning middle and end, and a clear winner and losers. You are knocking people OUT. That is fun.
It is kind of like playing live ring game vs online. You get a certain amount of satisfaction in knocking a player out of the game and watching them make that long, steamed walk to the door. Someone leaving an online game just does not carry the same satisfaction.

Considering I'm gonna be 21, finally, I wouldn't necessarily rule out the possibility. But realistically, considering the intense amount of luck involved with these tourneys, I'm not exactly going to go ape-shit crazy about trying to do them for the cash.
Just about enjoying myself, every once in a while I guess. Being busted out of a 10k tourney may not be that fun..

I think tournaments are simply more exciting in general, so if you do well in one it seems more satisfying.

If I start training real hard ... I could win a braclet at an event that starts on my 21st birthday (June 17th).
Maybe if I have the extra $1 - 2K for that event, whatever it may be, I'll do it ...
