Bad play or ok?

Posted Thu Oct 19, 2006 5:27 pm GMT by Jefecaminador
In the middle of a tourny.... I was wondering if this play was too aggressive. I really dont want to see a flop with 4 other players, since I'd pretty much have to have a set to feel comfortable. Just looking for some input.

I think in this case pushing with over 30bb is a little much. I would probably raise it to around 2400 to hopefully get it heads-up.

Although if you think you'll get a call from weaker hands even with a push there, then it's good obviously. It really depends on what hand range your opponents will call you with there.

somehow i dont think that the SB has KK or AA, seems like an easy re-raise for them

however ... mom'bea's talk is interesting ... i'd put him/her on JJ, KK or AA

the problem here is that 3 of your 4 villains have you covered, so you have little to no fold equity

this is a really hard spot ... if you push you're likely to only get called by AK, AA or KK ... but if you call or don't raise enough AQ, etc may get in for a cheaper flop and outflop you

you have two choices it seems
1) push and pray
2) call and pray

raising to 2400 - 3000 and then folding to an all-in is ridiculous

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. No way am I folding if I make a decent size raise... I'd already have 1/3 my stack in.... So it was either call or go all in. And with the pot already at 2.2k, I figured it was worth the risk of running into KK or AA to get all those chips.

Who said we would ever fold?

There is 2200 in dead money sitting in the pot. I don't mind the all-in with QQ from the BB. A raise would commit nearly half your chips (3000 total is a good raise) and will be hard to play if an overcard comes.

If you are up against AA or KK it's bad luck unless you have any reads on this hand and a raise to around 3k will force you to call an all-in most likely anyways.

Even if we just take this pot down with no callers we've increased our stack by about 30%.

I guess it depends if you want to see a flop or not. If you don't, then pushing is pretty much your only option.

In this situation I rather get it heads-up and see a flop, which is why I would raise it to around 2400.

This may sound wimpy, but I just call here. You have plenty of chips for the blinds right now and really if you push, you will at best be a coin flip if called (unless some donkey gets out of line with JJ or TT). I think seeing a cheap flop 4-way is the best way to go and then you can re-evaluate.
